Why renovating is a good thing to consider before selling

One of my favorite sales so far this year was 4570 Zuni Street. This 1940’s home radiates an excessive amount of charm and character throughout. With over 2900 sq. ft. of living space, large living and dining rooms, two full kitchens, wood burning fireplaces, new windows, large detached garage with storage and a large addition the back of the home sure does sound like a great deal from the description.

Over the years, the now hidden original hardwood floors were covered by high pile carpeting and laminate tile and not much had changed throughout the rest of the space. I had concerns that this would be an issue when trying to sell the property due to the fact that both the interior and exterior were pretty dated.

Luckily, this home went under contract in just over 2 months from the listing date. The sales price was lower than wanted due to the lack of updates, but the location and square footage kept the price at an acceptable value for both the seller and buyer.

When deciding to sell your home, you should first look at the age of the home and consider renovating both the interior and exterior of the home if you can afford it. This will help with selling your house in a quick and timely matter along with upping the sales price. If you choose not to renovate before selling, you might not get the best return on your investment.

Below are a few suggestions to help you decide if and what you should update!
