During a recent visit to Chicago for a conference, we had the pleasure of experiencing firsthand what makes this city such a desirable place to live.?
During our stay right off of Michigan Avenue (aka the Magnificent Mile), gave us a front-row seat to Chicago’s vibrant downtown energy. Between the iconic architecture, the thriving cultural scene, and the welcoming spirit of the city, it’s clear why so many are choosing to make Chicago their home.?
?A Rich Architectural Legacy?
One of the highlights of our trip was the architectural boat cruise along the Chicago River. This city has a skyline like no other, with buildings that tell stories of innovation, history, and community. The cruise gave us a fascinating look at the evolution of the city’s architectural landmarks, from historic towers to sleek modern condo developments. As someone who values unique properties, I appreciated learning how these structures blend function and beauty to create dynamic living spaces.?
?Exploring Neighbourhoods: The West Loop and Beyond?
While staying downtown, we made a point to visit the West Loop, a neighbourhood that’s transformed into one of the city’s hottest areas for dining, nightlife and living. It reminds one of Soho in Manhattan. The buildings are also much lower rise than you typically see in Chicago as they were former warehouses and have that lofty feeling. Dinner at Aba, a Mediterranean restaurant in Fulton Market, was a highlight of the trip, offering not only delicious food but also a vibrant atmosphere. I’ll be sharing a full review of Aba on The Graff Group Blog Sunday Select, as it truly exemplifies the kind of dining experience that makes Chicago such a culinary powerhouse.
?Jazz, Culture, and Entertainment Chicago’s love of music is undeniable, and we were fortunate enough to catch live jazz at both Andy’s Jazz Club and the House of Blues. These venues offer a taste of Chicago’s rich musical heritage, making it a dream for music lovers. Whether you’re a jazz aficionado or just looking for a fun night out, Chicago has entertainment options that appeal to every taste.?
?Dining on the Magnificent Mile?

Our culinary journey also included stops at some fantastic spots along the Magnificent Mile. We enjoyed a memorable meal at The Evie, which I’ll be featuring in a future Sunday Select blog post. Another standout was lunch at The Purple Pig which was hopping with business people coming in and out, the food was outstanding and service was friendly and easy going. A third mention was the Labriola, ?where we indulged in delicious Italian fare and their well known deep dish pizza that was enough for a few months for me
right in the heart of the city’s bustling shopping district. These restaurants represent just a small sampling of the world-class dining options that Chicago offers, making it a true foodie destination.
?A City That Welcomes You?
Beyond the architecture and dining, Chicago is a city that draws you in with its charm. Whether you’re walking along the lakefront, visiting a museum, or simply exploring the various neighbourhoods, the warmth of its people and the city’s vibrant culture are ever-present. It’s a place where you can experience the excitement of big-city life while feeling connected to a community that’s welcoming and proud of its roots. For anyone considering relocation, Chicago presents a unique blend of culture, history, opportunity, and affordability. Whether you’re attracted to its stunning architecture, thriving economy, or diverse neighbourhoods, this city has something for everyone.?
If you’re thinking about making a move, let Chicago be your next great adventure. And just in case you’re ready to explore some real estate opportunities, I’ll be sharing a home and condo for sale in Chicago shortly.
?Stay tuned!?
