Why not relocate?
In December 2014, I was in a rut. I was suffering the worst viral infection I'd ever had, my job was really unstable, the housing market at the time was so terrifying I'd probably have had to sell an organ to get a deposit for a flat, the writing was on the wall for the oil industry and my best friend had just told me she was upping sticks and moving.
It got me thinking- why not me? Why don't I do the same thing? So, I began my job hunt down here in Manchester- 350 odd miles away from where I was living- and by the end of February 2015, I had packed my life into a transit van (including my two cats!) and was moving. Just like that, in the space of three months, I had completely changed my life- so much for the better.
And I'm not the only one. The best friend who moved? She now lives and works in London in the charity and fundraising events sector for a Domestic Violence charity, has a beautiful flat in Zone 3 (shared with two very nice housemates!) and she's never looked back.
Someone else I went to school with went even further- she upped sticks and moved to Barcelona after being made redundant from the Oil industry. Another friend shipped off to Australia (and he makes me hideously jealous with his Facebook updates!) and others have moved to Edinburgh. We all shared one thing- where we lived and the industry we worked in wasn't working for us anymore.
So why not you? Why not make the change?

8 年Brilliant Post Kat, I've just relocated to Sunderland Myself, took a massive pay cut but I'm finding outside the Oil Bubble, we really don't need as much. All the best in the future.
