I have a story to share. And yes, it's about red rocking chairs, which might not strike you as having anything to do with my favorite topics in business - process, customer service and software. I wanted new red rocking chairs for my front porch. I bought several before, each time spending my hard-earned money on chairs that were described as “weatherproof.” Looking up the definition of weatherproof, I find this: “Able to withstand exposure to weather without damage or loss of function.” Sounds like I was on the right track to get what I needed for my front porch in Florida in the open-air. Previously, I had purchased weatherproof, wood rocking chairs and I loved everything about them. They were the right color. They were the right size. They rocked smoothly and they looked beautiful. Here's the problem. Weatherproof? Not so much. In each case, after as short a time as one year and possibly as long as two, the chairs rotted and potential occupants actually sat and fell to the ground. The chairs don't get used a lot, so the signs of deterioration were not worn as distinguishable as you might expect. After at least four chair purchases, I decided to do something different. I decided it was time to look into plastic/composite wood chairs.
