Why Realtors Feel Chased by MLOs — and What They Want to Do About It

If you're a realtor, you might have noticed a certain presence lurking around. It’s not a ghost or a particularly insistent telemarketer — it’s the Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO). Realtors often feel like they’re the star of a reality TV show called “Who’s Chasing Me Now?”, featuring MLOs who pop up everywhere, ready to pitch mortgage services faster than you can say “open house.”

Why realtors feel stalked

Relentless Calls and Emails ?

MLOs are notorious for their communication skills — so much so that realtors feel like they’ve signed up for a never-ending newsletter. If a realtor had a dollar for every unsolicited mortgage email they received, they could probably pay off their own mortgage.

Social Media Ambushes ?

Realtors post a new listing on Instagram?

Suddenly, there’s an MLO in the comments, sliding into DMs with a cheerful, “Hey, let’s team up!” Realtors have started feeling like they can’t post a picture of their morning coffee without getting a side of mortgage rates with it.

Networking Overload ?

Every networking event seems like an ambush where MLOs lie in wait, armed with business cards, a firm handshake, and the promise of “better rates for your clients.” It’s as if realtors have become the popular kids at a high school dance — except they’d prefer to hang by the punch bowl and chat with a fellow realtor, not dodge overenthusiastic MLOs.

What Realtors Really Wish They Could Do About Those MLOs

Create a “Do Not Contact” List ?

Realtors fantasize about a registry where they can sign up for “Do Not Call, Do Not Email, and Definitely Do Not Comment on My Posts.” It would be like the do-not-call list, but with extra emphasis on “do not.”

Host MLO-Free Zones ?

A realtor’s dream is to have “MLO-Free Zones” at networking events. They could have special wristbands that signal, “Not today, MLO!” or a silent alarm that goes off when an MLO approaches within 10 feet.

Realtors fantasize about having this zone at their offices complete with actual security guards to enforce the rule.

Stage a Friendly Intervention ?

Maybe it’s time to have a gentle intervention, where realtors sit MLOs down and say, “We love you, but we need some space.” A little breathing room could do wonders for everyone’s sanity — and inboxes.

Set Up MLO Decoy Events ?

Realtors are considering staging fake open houses in hard-to-find locations. Picture an abandoned warehouse or a cornfield maze, with cryptic signs leading to a “special meeting just for MLOs.” Only instead of finding leads, they find… absolutely nothing. Just empty chairs and a sign that says, “Congrats! You’ve been ghosted!”

The “No MLO” App ?

Forget about dating apps — realtors are dreaming of a new app: “MLO Blocker.” With one swipe, they can instantly filter out any contact from known MLOs, whether it’s a call, email, or social media message. Realtors would be able to enjoy their days without an MLO’s face popping up like an unwanted Tinder match.

Disguises and Misdirection Tactics ?

Some realtors are thinking of going incognito. Fake names, mustaches, wigs — anything to avoid being recognized by an MLO at a conference or event. Imagine realtors exchanging code words and secret handshakes just to avoid another “let’s do coffee” ambush. An elaborate game of cloak and dagger, real estate style.

The “Realtor Witness Protection Program” ?

For those at their wit's end, the ultimate solution: the “Realtor Witness Protection Program.” Realtors would be relocated, given new identities, and start fresh in an undisclosed location, free from MLO pursuit. They might rather be chased by the mob!

In the end, realtors and MLOs need each other like peanut butter needs jelly. But maybe, just maybe, the MLOs could back off a little and let the realtors enjoy their coffee in peace…

...at least until the next rate cut.
