Why race E-Scooters?

Why race E-Scooters?

Join forces with the Federation for Micromobility and Sport and be part of the racing ecosystem.

"As soon as the second car was built, racing began" Unknown.

We live in exciting times. At least, I think so. That's what makes me wake up every morning to try to build a better world with innovation and creativity—a world that will be sustainable and fun for everyone.

Motorsport has been my life for 30 years now. I started in karting and raced in F3, F2, F1, Endurance LMP1 Hybrids, GT cars, Stock cars, Formula E, and more.

Racing is cool. It is a sport that combines hardcore skills, risk-taking, engineering, business, public exposure, and more. Very few sports are so complete and require such vast understanding of how the world works. But racing is extremely expensive, which means very few people can do it at all.

When we were building up Formula E 12 years ago (I was the third person in the company with Alejandro and Alberto), first, I learned a lot during that period, but it also gave me the chance to realize that we could combine motorsport with the vision of creating new technologies for a better, more exciting future. And now it is the time to use this to create something similar.

The question that was stuck in my mind was:?"What would be the most exciting, sustainable, and scalable way for millions of people to DO motorsport?"

I have had a fast e-scooter for years, which I use for my personal mobility around the streets of my city. Also, my son was just 2 years old and loved his kick scooter, and he wasn't alone, all his friends also have scooters. It was interesting as there was no kick scooters around when I was kid, most of us rode skateboards. I decided to look deeper at the data to understand if there was a business opportunity there.

The idea of creating a top-tier e-scooter race came because of the sheer number of people using Micromobility today and the forecasted future market size:

Fast growing market.

All the hundreds of millions scooter-rides per day plus a two-digit growth YoY specially by the younger generation seems good. A scattered, non-regulated landscape to create something unique, centralised and professional, also seemed well positioned.

We decided to take a shot at it.

We wanted to create a?totally new sport, from scratch, with the right vison, rules, governance and KPis that would allow for this amazing new sport to thrive. The?Federation for Micromobility and Sport?was created and developed by us with support from ex-F1 people that developed all the Safety Protocols and data analysis.

All the Federation's IP for the track design and sporting protocols and events have been developed for years now by the Internationally recognised company?Test and Training International?owned and operated by ex-F1, WEC racer?Alex Wurz, specifically for the federation.

We?co-developed our own unique e-scooter?with the characteristics necessary to create a top tier racing while maintaining the costs low. All wheel drive, titanium body, nearly 40hp with a near 100mph (150kph) top speed with a sleek racing based bodywork design.?

RS-ZeroDXB for the Dubai Cup

This year main event happens in?Dubai on December 16th, 2023.?If you are around come to see it live at the Design District or follow the?Instagram page for more.

The emphasis on the?technical?and?physical?skills required for e-scooter racing makes it sound like a thrilling and challenging sport. Comparing it to skiing and motorbike skills gives a good perspective on the level of expertise needed to excel in this field. The?inclusivity?aspect, where riders from diverse backgrounds can compete equally in a safe environments, is unique. We could essentially have, in the same event, hundreds of riders competing in elimination rounds during many days until the big final.

It's also interesting to know that there are many other e-scooter racing events and league around the world and we are working together to build a new sport to allow everyone to participate in. It is great to see a community being built and how much people are enthusiastic about the sport.

Let's build a exciting new world of racing.

An exciting and meaningful adventure. Together, on the road to decarbonizing mobility????
