Why the PTP Daily Huddle Works

Why the PTP Daily Huddle Works

So simple yet so valuable.?Every morning, PTP team members gather for a 5-15 minute video call to kick off the day.?There is no set agenda; instead the foundation is accountability, togetherness, cohesion and execution.?Some days certain individuals have little to ask or share, some days a person may monopolize the time with a particular topic.??So why is the PTP Daily Huddle so effective?

Mid-March of 2020 was a shock to the world.?Like other companies, PTP send notices to customers that we were leaving our offices but would be continuing business operations to provide the best service possible.?We expected to be back working together by May.?

Remote working was not new to PTP as mature users of SaaS applications, cloud services, web-conferencing and online collaboration tools.?Our 24x7 PeakPlus managed services had zero issues in the transition with all policies, access management and phone services previously enabled for remote work.?

But our business is more than managed services contracts.?Sales needs to be discussing new engagements to deploy new technologies and new locations.?Engineering is prioritizing time and projects.?Sales Operations is managing procurement of licensing, cloud services and products.?Finance and Accounting are forecasting and counting beans.?Remote work meant our team was not together anymore and instead juggling their own family issues with children off from school and concerns over a pandemic.?So we started a daily huddle.

Our PTP Huddle is scheduled for 15 minutes each day.?In the early "pandemic days" we discussed all things COVID, the impact on us personally, our families and the impact to our business, both short and long term.?The call kept us connected to each other, our business priorities and helped focus on the day's tasks versus the fear of the unknown.?It was a welcome commitment during a time that had very few.?

As business eased back towards the end of 2020 and business starting shifting back to normal levels, we questioned continuing with this session.?Was it needed??Was there value??Almost unanimously the answer was YES.?We have now been meeting every day consistently for more than two years and have no plans to discontinue.?Here are the main reasons why:

  • Accountability - regardless of your role, being present at the daily call means being accountable to what you deliver to the organization or customers.?There is no hiding.
  • Responsiveness - with all the right people on the call we can address critical items that require a timely response, or re-prioritize as necessary.
  • Communication - we discuss sales forecast numbers, updates on HR, employees PTO schedules, impactful deals or engagements or perhaps weather issues in cities where we have team members that could have some type of impact.?Quick finger on the pulse of the team/company.
  • Culture/Togetherness - most of us are not at PTP for just a job, but a sense of collaborating together to have an impact.?Being on the call and showing your face is a way for us to stay on the same page, together, for the work we do for our customers.?

For larger companies, this may work better departmentally, or inter-departmentally with delegates from various departments. At PTP, for the foreseeable future, we'll continue to huddle with the majority of the team protecting the communication and teamwork that delivers impact to our customers. Happy huddling!
