Why PTC don't manually weld SPMs

Why PTC don't manually weld SPMs

Side Pocket Mandrels (SPMs) have for a long time been the only upper completion component, which is manufactured using manual welding techniques.

Depending on the welders competency / state of mind / concentration level, the risk of SPM reliability issues exists. Any failure, potentially resulting in high workover costs.

When PTC entered the SPM market, we knew we couldn't take such risks with our reputation, so we developed two unique SPM product lines:

  1. The worlds first SPM family, including dual barrier SPMs, to be manufactured without any welding at all.
  2. The worlds first SPM family that are manufactured with just 2 orbital welds, using robotic TIG welding machines.

They are currently being used by major IOC's in various locations worldwide.

I'm thinking that if you pay them $30/hr. instead of $15/hr. that you should be OK.? I worked with a welder that made every bead look like the one on the bottom.? Every weld passed radiographic inspection.
