Political affiliation in America seems to have become the top category that people identify with. Even over Gender or Racial/Ethnic Origin. People used to dismiss the opinions of others categorizing something as dependent on their racial (or socio-economic class) majority or minority point of view. Now viewpoints are first considered Liberal or Conservative.
