Why Plastic Surgery is not Wellness

There is an alarming trend, in Wellness Centres opening in the Hotel Industry, to focus on Anti Aging in their sales pitch and call it "Wellness".

Fat freezing, anti aging, extreme diets etc are the opposite of Wellness.

If you are selling customers on this promise, you have completely misunderstood what Wellness is and should not be calling this Wellness.

Shallowness is so far removed from Wellness, you may as well be eating a Big Mac, going to the Gym and calling this a Spiritual journey.

As a Wellness Consultant, I can tell you, the aim is Longevity and living your best life.

Radiance is the result of a clean diet and moving Prana or Energy through your body, not the destination. If "gorgeous from a bottle" is your destination, get a Psychiatrist.

We all want to age well, with as little physical and emotional pain as possible. But Wellness is doing the work on the mind, soul and feeling content in your body. There is no quick fix for this journey.

It is true that Yogis never age. Breath work, Mindfulness and most importantly keeping calm and inner peace is the ultimate wrinkle preventative. The Asana practice does prevent joint pain, strengthens and tones the muscles and collagen is naturally produced in the skin due to the stimulation of Fascia, or the connective tissue in the body. That is why Yoga practices like Yin Yoga has been dubbed the "botox" of the Yogas.

Following a daily Spiritual Practice (every guest should leave a Wellness property knowing what this involves) gives you the tools to overcome stress and anxiety.

The Yoga and Spirituality sutras makes you more commited to self inquiry, loving yourself unconditionally and healing trauma that causes addictions such as overeating and self abuse.

Your guests are far too educated on Spirituality now to fall for the 90's botox sales pitch. Anyone in the Wellness industry sees Anti Aging as a cry for help. Plastic surgery is just another mask we are trying to remove when working with clients to heal themselves, so putting it as a hotel sales pitch simple makes a Wellness expert cringe, it cheapens your brand and screams "we have no idea what Wellness is!".

Imagine if I went to a Chanel fashion show, where a team of seamstresses and beaders have spent three months hand crafting a dress for the next season and thought I could get the same item at Target. It is the same with Wellness. Sticking a needle to plump someone's face or fat freezing is temporary, a bandaid for what is really going on in their Monkey Mind. Just like the Target dress it lacks depth, a story and years of work. It will fall apart very quickly, where as the Chanel will hang in your closet and live on forever.

A client seeking Anti Aging has an addiction. The whole point of Wellness is to overcome our addictions. You would not take a shopaholic to a mall to overcome their addiction, why would you offer botox and fat freezing to someone who has clearly spent their life with body issues?

Credibility is vital in the Wellness industry and whomever told you to slap a "anti aging" angle on your Wellness Centre just lost their authenticity card.

There are so many incredible healers, local natural medicine men, Spiritual advisors, Yoga and Meditation teachers, psychotherapists and trauma experts in the Wellness industry now that we have no room for this Anti Aging tag. It is setting Wellness back two decades.

Invest in proper Wellness Programs and ride the Wellness wave with integrity.

Yes true. Thanks for sharing. Wellness is a concept to bring alignment into your inner body and then see its eflection in your outer habits. Spiritualism and yogic philosophies teach you both not just how to stay young for a longer time but also to age grace fully at the right time with a right amount of wisdom.
