Why is this picture significant?
They're a rare looking bunch, aren't they (apologies Paul, Shamir et al!).
Yesterday the UK Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority(GLAA) and the UK construction sector launched a joint protocol, designed as a framework for collaboration to address modern slavery in construction (https://www.gla.gov.uk/whats-new/latest-press-releases/111017-construction-industry-s-pledge-to-tackle-labour-exploitation/). In this endeavour, collaboration is important.
It's a picture that's significant because it represents a mindset that recognises human rights as a non-competitive issue. It's why Resilient.World is a signatory to the protocol- we understand that the complex nature of slavery, and of human rights abuses more generally, mean that cooperation across industry, and between government and industry, provides our best chance at tackling this most pernicious of activities.
In the coming weeks there will be more signatories, and over the coming months greater collaboration. Watch this space.
