Why people work too hard

Humans are pretty smart.

We all want to achieve as efficiently as possible.

Organizational management may disagree with me when I say, I think we do considering employees:

  • waste their energy and time when performing from a mindset of debt and obligation to management's metrics and KPIs (instead of contributing as a whole human who offer solutions to their very human customers' needs and wants for an easier life).
  • secretly spend way too much energy on their reputation and appearances that are hijacked by these metrics (instead of knowing life is meant to give from the overflow of their own self-fulfillment that isn't based on anything external).
  • perform from a half-empty tank that relies on pure grit to compensate for the fact their professional identities exclude the soul part as soon as they walk office building or sign in for that Zoom call.

These factors, among many more, cause that relentless effort to prove and perform in ways that really don't matter from a business perspective.

In other words, many are forced to fail as a human while being forced to perform in a standardized suit of narrow routes.

What?

At the core of business, it's about humans helping humans no matter how big a company scales.

Anything that detracts or distracts from this core concept will make people work way too hard because:

  • Common sense knowing is cut off and replaced with a weaponized, diminishing mindset of scarcity that starts its own riptide of relentless resentment.
  • That scarcity of time, worthiness, true value, and resources perpetuates when the resources at hand, primarily human with multi-faceted capabilities, aren't fully invited to contribute from a holistic perspective to a tangible, very real business objective.
  • Overcompensating for this balance is relegated to people reconciling and refilling this gap caused by the overall business structure that removes the humanness from its ecosystem.

The fact is, processes and outputs would accelerate if we made that 1° shift by allowing this consciousness aspect to be allowed to become a viable business capability.

This alone does nothing to one's precious processes and systems yet exponentially enhances how they work.

People who work are pretty smart when the factors listed above exist.

Everyone still gets their stuff done but they sure do work too hard doing so.

So much so that many folks are blazing their own paths.

It's a shame and a miss that so much talent is overlooked because of the narrowness of cultures that don't make room for it.

Do yourself, your business, and your customers a favor and leverage what the 21st century is teaching us how efficiency is now working: Being more of yourself is the fundamental business and life capability to develop.
