Why People Should Not See HR Differently?

Today, after a long time, I am writing something. This time I want to write something about the HR profession. This article might reflect my anger towards much received the critics from many stakeholders regarding this profession. I don’t want to start with all theories of HR not to bore the readers. One simple fact we need to understand here HR profession is not made by one- or two-person interest. Many people think that as if few dumbest, laziest, useless people gathered together and gave birth to HR. Do you think the HR profession is made or created overnight? I request you to go back to the history/industrial era to understand HR evolution. Whenever there were complex situations, HR started evolving to manage such complex situations and to manage change.

You cannot criticize or say anything without knowing or going into deep. HR is the same as other departments with its own departmental strategies and goal. Other one thing also we have to know that the learning path. All human beings are progressive in nature. No one came with perfect knowledge. The people you have in the HR department might be in the learning phase and they are putting their efforts to create value for the organization. You can not judge the whole HR profession by seeing people working in the HR dept. The role of HR is created and made because of the need of the hour. I will not explain here the roles of HR which you can find and read anywhere on google.

Today, I have noticed even small organizations are hiring HR Professionals. You should be curious. Why they need HR professionals. They are not dinosaurs walking in Jurassic parks. They are a team of professionals who cares about people and the company at the same time. And come on, tell me who works perfectly, who is perfect. People from sales, software development, marketing, production, etc. are also not perfect. They make mistakes too. The nature of HR is to provide support and drive the organization by improving performance, productivity, and people competency. So, what is the problem with HR if you have no problem with other departments?

If you are the leader of the organization, you have to lead the whole organization and all of the people are coming together to work on your vision and mission. If you don’t have your own clear vision and mission and expect all departments to come up with ideas and initiatives then you are seriously mistaken. You have to initiate communication very often with dept leaders and share your vision and missions. You have to first inspire, motivate, empower, and trust then leave it to them. If a few departments are moving slowly then being a leader, you have to pull/push them to catch up similar speed as other depts.

If you are an employee from another department and if you are criticizing HR people then my question to you is, what are you then??You also work within some dept same as HR dept. The only difference is the job description. So why don’t you mind your own business and see your own strengths and weaknesses? If you faced a problem in past and don’t get solved through HR then there must be ways and processes to solve them instead of defaming the whole HR profession. If a particular person in HR is failing to provide you with support then you can go to senior authorities and this moment might be a learning case for that person who is in the HR dept.

Finally, everybody says we are positive but that is not enough. It has to be in behavior. It has to be in attitude. Everybody should know to respect all professions.?

Very well said! There's a long..long.. way to go... Management and organizations often don't realize that. There's so much HR can contribute towards Organization success. Especially the scenario outside the valley is not really delightful. HR needs more acceptance and lesser biassed treatment. I really hope this mindset changes soon over the period of time.
