"Why you?" It’s a question I’ve been asked many times, and it’s one that got me thinking.

As a Belbin Team Roles Accredited Professional with over 26 years of experience in transforming team dynamics and leadership effectiveness, I bring a unique blend of expertise and practical know-how. As the founder and lead trainer of Belbin Eesti and a member of the Belbin? - The Team Role Company WorldWide community, I’ve had the privilege of guiding teams towards better collaboration and leadership. Estonian is my native language, but I’m also fluent in English, Russian, and Finnish.

Why I Do It

There’s so much undiscovered and unused potential hidden within teams. Why isn’t it being tapped into? Is it a lack of knowledge? A lack of curiosity? Or maybe it’s the fear of change? I’m passionate about helping teams unlock this potential by understanding and leveraging individual strengths. I believe that when team members truly understand themselves and each other, recognizing their unique roles and how they complement one another, they can achieve remarkable results. But let’s be honest, this requires the courage to step out of the comfort zone and see things from a different perspective.

How I Do It

My approach is a bit different—at least that’s what many of my clients have told me. It’s interactive, practical, and yes, sometimes pretty direct. It’s designed to provoke thought and even challenge you, but always with a positive and understanding touch. I tailor everything to meet the unique needs of each team I work with. Clients often say my style is straightforward, even provocative, but it’s always about driving real change. As one client put it, “Mats doesn’t sugarcoat the truth—he gets to the core of the issues, where growth happens.”

I integrate the principles of the Belbin Team Roles model with team coaching strategies that are grounded in reality and immediately applicable. Whether it’s through team coaching, teamwork training, workshop, or leadership training, my goal is to create opportunities and environment where teams can thrive - even if it means going through some discomfort. Let’s face it, can you really leap forward in teamwork and leadership without stepping out of your comfort zone?

The Challenge for All of Us

The real challenge begins after the training ends: How do we implement the knowledge and experience gained? This is where Team Coaching comes into play. It’s the next big step for both me and the teams I work with. As Georgina Woudstra, MCC, ACTC wisely said, "Team coaching is not for the faint-hearted." Team Coaching is a learning journey designed to help teams evolve into true learning teams, where growth is continuous, and every member is committed to the team's success. It's about turning insights into action and fostering an environment where learning never stops.

I won’t say it’s going to be easy at first, but I’ll be there to help you out. The result? A more cohesive, productive, and empowered team ready to tackle challenges and achieve its goals. Beyond My Work with Teams

I also share my knowledge as a lecturer at the Estonian Entrepreneurship University of Applied Sciences / EEK Mainor and as a visiting lecturer at TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology , where I educate the next generation of leaders on team dynamics and effective teamwork.

Outside of Work

Outside of my professional life, I find balance and creativity through photography - especially golf photography. Whether I’m on the green or behind the lens, these activities help me explore a different pace and perspective from my professional life.
