Why Our Family's Utah Adventure is Reinforcing Our Commitment to Our Lifestyle
Hello from Utah!
We've finally made it back for the first time since August. In short, this Utah trip allowed us to reflect on our decisions, confront challenges, and reaffirm our Commitment to our chosen way of life.
It was nice this week to do a little throwback to our 2021 lifestyles before we went rogue and traveled the world. I worked out of the office while Tambre could train with her old coach. It's tough to articulate but being in Utah and Florida presents different pros and cons for my career and my wife's.
Dilemmas of Location & Career Opportunities
Utah:
?? The Pros of Being in the Office
During our stay in Utah, I could work from an office again, which offered some convenience I've missed since we transitioned to remote work. It reminded me of the benefits of face-to-face interaction and spontaneous collaboration when physically present with colleagues. For me, it's the classic office environment with all its synergies - casual water cooler chats, quick answers from colleagues down the hall, and those enjoyable lunch breaks with coworkers.
?? The Impossibility of Training in Utah
However, it wasn't all smooth sailing. As much as I appreciated the convenience of being in the office, our stay in Utah revealed the impracticality of my wife Tambre's beach volleyball training in this location. The lengthy drive over an hour from Provo to North Salt Lake and partnering with a smaller, albeit skilled, group of athletes.
Florida:
?? The Pros of Remote Work

In Florida, I embrace the freedom of remote work. I maintain Mountain Time hours while on the East Coast (11 AM ET - 7 PM ET), allowing me to enjoy quality mornings with my kids as my wife trains. Though I work from anywhere, I depend on digital communication to get things done - and it works surprisingly well.
?? The Possibility of Training in Florida
For my wife, Florida offers a training environment just 10 minutes from home, with year-round access to numerous professional players and proximity to top tournaments in the country. This convenience and availability of resources make it an ideal location for her athletic pursuits.
The Conundrum:
Utah makes it easier for me to work but harder for my wife to train, while Florida does the opposite. So, what tips the scale? Lifestyle. As it stands, Florida aligns better with our way of life, fostering growth for us as a couple, family, and individuals.
?? Closure and Recommitment to Our Lifestyle
Despite the challenges, we were reminded of the importance of Commitment and perseverance. Win or lose, what matters most is showing up and giving our best every single day. Our experience in Utah reaffirmed our dedication to a remote lifestyle, enabling us to pursue our passions without the constraints of a fixed location.
As we navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of work and life, let's remember the importance of staying true to our values and being open to change. Our time in Utah has taught us that embracing flexibility and adapting to challenges are essential ingredients for success in our world.
So, let's keep showing up, embracing change, and pursuing our dreams - wherever they may take us.
