Why Our AGM is My Favourite Event of the Year
"When I leave The Haven, I feel like a better person."
These heartfelt words perfectly captured the atmosphere of our recent AGM. Over 40 members of our community—Friends of The Haven, Haven Helpers, Havenites (wellbeing co-workers), and staff—came together to reflect on our shared journey and celebrate our collective achievements.
Unlike the typical AGM, ours was infused with warmth, purpose, and connection, a testament to the thought and care we bring to everything we do. It was particularly heartening to see many familiar faces from our early days of running the community larder. This continuity of support is a reflection of the lasting relationships we’ve built through our work.
Highlights of the Evening
During the AGM, we shared our charitable aims and showcased how we bring them to life. Over the past year:
1,700 people benefited from 332 free or donation-based wellbeing activities, supported by our Community Wellbeing Project.
Our Community Fridges and Teaching Garden helped hundreds of local families access nutritious food while fostering sustainability and community spirit.
Our New Mum Wellbeing Groups provided 96 weeks of postnatal support to 60 mums and babies, filling a vital gap in face-to-face services.
We also took time to honour the extraordinary contributions of our Haven Helpers, with awards presented by friends and family of those we continue to remember:
?? Courageous – Nix Strachan (Community Yoga volunteer)
?? Authenticity – Danielle Thomson (New Mum Wellbeing Group)
?? Community – Chris Negus (Community Fridge volunteer)
?? Compassion – Thane Lawrie (Community Meditation)
?? The Golden Arrow – For exceptional dedication and service, awarded to someone who wishes to remain anonymous.
The Energy of Togetherness
What set this AGM apart was the palpable energy in the room. Time and again, attendees commented on the atmosphere of hope, connection, and positivity—a rare feature in AGMs. As one guest wisely said: "You either get our energy, or you don’t. And that’s ok."
Perhaps the angels decorating our studio—handmade by our community in recent weeks—had something to do with it. Their messages of kindness and humanity seemed to echo throughout the space, reminding us all of the power of collective compassion.
If you’re feeling low or need a dose of hope for humanity, we invite you to visit The Haven. Read the angels’ messages, soak in the energy, and let it uplift your spirit.
Thank you to everyone who makes The Haven a place of transformation, connection, and care. Together, we’re creating a community where everyone can thrive. ??
