Why OS&D doesn't have to be OMG

Why OS&D doesn't have to be OMG

Every shipper's worst nightmare comes with just three letters: OSD. These issues can be glaring to sight since these terms are used to describe discrepancies between the freight that arrives versus what was shipped and all three pertain to the quantity of goods shipped or the quality they are in when delivered; but the presence of overage/shortage/damage concerns happening is inevitable.

On this month's Power Tuesdays series, let's talk about Overage, Shortage, and Damage and how PLG helps its customers manage them with ease.

Overage

Overage refers to receiving excess freight over the quantity believed to have been shipped and listed on the BOL.

Out of the three, overages tend to happen less often than shortages and damages. However, it doesn't mean that it is an issue that we can overlook. Overages likely initiate more pressing issues for the shipper since it is highly that one or more shipments will experience shortages. Result? A possible return to shipper and/or reconsignment.

Shortage

On the other hand, shortage refers to receiving less freight over the quantity believed to have been shipped and listed on the BOL.

The chances of a shortage in LTL shipping is much higher compared to overage because of the nature how freight are transported. Less-than-truckload shipping or less than load is the transportation of an amount of freight sized between individual parcels and full truckloads, meaning it involves multiple shippers and consignees.
