Why Orion ChatGPT-5 Might Not Meet Expectations & How to Prepare for the AI Shift

Sam Altman, teased a new model Orion, which could be GPT-5. But it might not meet expectations…Now, before you start throwing your keyboards at the screen, let’s play devil’s advocate and explore why this shiny new model might not live up to the hype.

But I just want to mention, that I am all for new models and we’ve seen some cool innovations from OpenAI and they have set themselves as the leader in the AI master race. I wont lie I am quite impressed with GPT o1-preview and o1-mini. I mean using Chain-of-thought for better reasoning in genius!

Iv tested the model, and I was quite impressed, the more I got into it, the more I wanted to learn and use o1 more, that was until I ran into the cap.

This is just one of the problems, let’s look into other problems that could plague GPT-5.

Incremental Improvements

First off, let’s talk about expectations. Many experts are concerned that ChatGPT-5 could be just another incremental upgrade over GPT-4. If the new model only features minor enhancements — like reduced hallucination rates or a longer context length — users might feel like they’ve been sold a bill of goods. We’re all waiting for groundbreaking capabilities, not just a “scaled-up” version of what we already have.

High Expectations for AGI

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: Artificial General Intelligence, or AGI. There’s a prevailing expectation that ChatGPT-5 might be the model that gets us closer to AGI. But if it falls short of that benchmark, especially after all the buzz about exponential improvements, users could be left feeling disappointed.

Cost and Accessibility Issues

Next up, let’s talk dollars and cents. If ChatGPT-5 is significantly more powerful but also more expensive to operate, we might be looking at a situation where only the big players can afford to use it. High API costs could deter widespread adoption, especially if the improvements don’t translate into substantial benefits.

Legal and Ethical Challenges

And then there are the legal and ethical challenges. OpenAI is navigating a minefield of ongoing litigation and ethical considerations that could delay or limit the capabilities of ChatGPT-5. If they have to roll out features cautiously, it could affect user experience and functionality. Plus, concerns about bias and misinformation are still lurking in the shadows, which could hinder the model’s effectiveness and public trust.

Competition from Open Source Models

Let’s not forget about the competition. Open-source AI models are advancing rapidly, and there’s pressure on OpenAI to keep its competitive edge. If ChatGPT-5 doesn’t significantly outperform these alternatives, it might struggle to capture market share or user interest. The perception that AI technology has plateaued could further diminish enthusiasm for new releases. It’s like being the last kid picked for dodgeball — nobody wants to be that kid.

User Disappointment with Hype

Finally, we have the issue of user disappointment. If the reality of ChatGPT-5 doesn’t align with the extensive marketing and expectations set by OpenAIand the community, we could see a backlash. A lack of transformative features could lead to a broader sentiment that AI advancements have been overstated. It’s like getting hyped for a concert only to find out the band is just lip-syncing.

Preparing for the AI Shift

So, how do we prepare for this potential letdown? First, manage your expectations. Understand that while advancements are exciting, they may not always deliver the revolutionary changes we hope for. Second, stay informed about the developments in AI, including open-source alternatives. Knowledge is power, and being aware of your options can help you make better decisions for your business.

Lastly, consider diversifying your AI toolkit. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Explore various models and platforms to find the best fit for your needs.

Now, here’s the thing: I’m putting together an AI Business Systems Handbookthat you can download for free when it’s ready. I’ll be running various experiments and building my own optimal business systems with AI, and I want you to join me on this journey.

OpenAI is unlikely to release a model called “ChatGPT 5.” Whatever they release next might not live up to the hype, so avoiding that specific name helps prevent those expectations. Instead, expect a variety of names for future releases.
