Why onsite nitrogen production require so much air

We are often asked, why does a 100Nm3/hr, 99% purity nitrogen generator need 2-3 times the amount of compressed air? Is it too unreasonable?
Well, there are three reasons can explain why:
1. The content of nitrogen in the air is only 78%, so it is obviously impossible to turn 78% of 100m3 air into 99% of 100m3 nitrogen.
The air contains moisture and various dust impurities, and there will be air loss in the process of passing through the filters and dryer.
Pressure swing adsorption technology has a large air loss in the process of producing high-purity nitrogen.
Moreover, the higher the nitrogen purity requirement, the more compressed air will be consumed accordingly. For example, a 100Nm3/hr 99.999% nitrogen generator may require 6-8 times the compressed air consumption.
