Why OCD isn't an adjective...or a joke
When my daughter was first diagnosed with contamination OCD she would only sit in ONE chair.
She refused to move.
She refused to eat or drink.
She refused to use the toilet.
She went through endless wipes and sprays.
She begged to be admitted to hospital.
She refused to go to school.
She slept most of the day.
Her hands were peeling and raw.
Almost every waking hour was filled with intrusive thoughts...and exhausting compulsions.
The family posed a 'contamination' risk.
OCD meltdowns became the norm.
She was emotional and fragile.
Her future looked bleak.
These are just a few reasons why OCD is not an adjective...Or a joke.
Thanks to CAMHS and ERP therapy, my daughter's story has a happy ending as she now leads a normal life, including studying at her dream uni.

2 å¹´Absolutely. I always make a point of educating people when they refer to liking things being neat/organised as being 'a bit OCD'. No, that's not what OCD is at all - yes it can be a part of it, but it's so much more than that and the intrusive thoughts/anxiety can be completely debilitating. Well done for raising awareness and being such a fantastic advocate.
