Why Non-Profits are failing

Why Non-Profits are failing

Most of us have, at one point in our lives, donated either time or money to a non-profit organization. The number leaps off of a large cliff when comparing those who sporadically invest or donate compared to those who consistently do so. Why do you or don't you support a non-profit??

There are multiple reasons why, but here are the big two. People either do not trust non-profit organizations or understand what they do. The gaps between people and non-profits are the messaging and the transparency. We should look at a well-known organization like the #SPCA ("#NSPCA"). When asked, most people believe that the #SPCA gathers animals off the streets and sells them to people looking to adopt kittens and puppies.?

Generally speaking, people will say this is a good thing. Occasionally, they may even donate a few dollars towards the cause. Many people also believe the government funds the organization, and the #SPCA makes a substantial amount from selling/adopting animals they obtain for free. So why give consistently??

One of the fantastic things the #SPCA does is rescue animals from the most horrid conditions in communities worldwide. They deal with things that many can't imagine. Some may know of the viral video of individuals taking fish hooks, sticking them through the backs of baby kittens, and throwing them in the ocean. In the video, the kittens wail while the individuals laugh and joke in the background.?

There are countless stories where the #SPCA steps in to help aid animals in the worst conditions. The stories undoubtingly are heartbreaking. Yet the #SPCA does so much more. They are, for one, an international organization working around the clock.?

The #NSPCA is also engaged in the following:

-Animals in Research?

-Community Outreach

-Society Liason?

-Training?

-Animal Welfare?

-Farm Animal Protection?

-Wildlife Protection

-Special Projects around the Globe

The simple truth is this. If people remain outside of the circle of trust and transparency, how will they feel connected to the mission of a non-profit? Sharing the stories and achievements with people is a must. Non-profits must also make front and center the uncensored consequences of their absence. Non-profits must focus on the emotional, impactful, and recurring message. Money is needed to support worthwhile causes to combat the unfortunate travesties plaguing our society. We can agree on that, I'm sure.?

One of the best ways to get the message out is through visual, tactile, and thought-out stories. Stats can be great, but memorable, personalized, and connecting messaging work best. Yet, as history has shown, we will only participate if we are made aware of the champions undergoing the battle to make the world a better place. If we are left to assume, we will stand by our assumptions. We can all, and we must all, do better together.??
