Why Nobody Is Returning Your Sales Calls

It seemed like a warm lead at the time.
You had a great conversation. They seemed interested in doing business with you.
You waited a couple of days...and then called. But nothing.
You left message after message. You started to feel like the crazy ex boyfriend or girlfriend that just wasn't ready to give up.
Finally, you cut bait. You walked away with your tail between your legs.
"Was it something I said? Was it something I did?"
Perhaps both. Or maybe, just maybe, it was technology.
Today, I give you a gift. It's a little insight into the top five reasons you may not have even realized for why nobody is calling you back.
1. The number you called from doesn't go anywhere.
Nothing is worse than when someone leaves you a voicemail that you listen to when you're driving...but can't call back. Why? Because the number you have to call them back on is different than the number they called you from. If I have to listen to your voicemail and write down the number to be able to call you back, chances are you're S.O.L.
2. You left me a voicemail about how you needed to close the sale that day to hit your deadline.
I don't care about your deadlines. As a matter of fact, nobody cares about your deadlines other than you, your significant other and your boss. When you leave me a voicemail that's doing anything but providing value for me and my business, it's an immediate fail.
3. You went into crazy stalker mode.
Listen, we're all insanely busy. So if I didn't call you back for a day, cut me some slack. Bombarding me with 10 messages in 24 hours makes me want to get a restraining order, not a pen to sign a contract.
4. You got my name wrong.
Sure, we all make mistakes. But don't get my first name wrong. It might not seem like a big deal to you, but what does that say to me about your attention to detail?
5. You forgot that it's 2015.
Voicemail? Chances are pretty good that the recipient never even listened to it. Want to get me quickly? Text me. Email me. But for the love of God, don't bother with a voicemail.

9 年"The number you called from doesn't go anywhere." is a good point. And so true.
I help people build the stage in which their greatest memories will take place…..their home.
9 年I could not agree more with everything in this article. Leaving someone a voicemail is usually a waste of time unless you are dealing with someone that doesn't use email at all....I have a few clients that refuse to use email. Also, if I have a person with a really unusual name I will ask them to pronounce it, then I will add the pronunciation to their file so I never get it wrong.
