Why this new year could bring an amazing opportunity your way!

Why this new year could bring an amazing opportunity your way!

As many people use the New Year as a chance to re-assess their goals, both personally and professionally, your career inevitably becomes a part of that evaluation. As my company, Revolent, is growing exponentially across Australia, North America, and the UK, I thought I’d tell you a bit more about my journey here so far.

I joined in July 2021, as a Senior Talent Acquisition Executive, and I’ve since been promoted to Team Leader. Since we've been in a lockdown here in Melbourne for the majority of my time with Revolent, I’ve mostly been working from home. But even in a ‘normal' world, there’s still a lot of flexibility, as I’d only be going to the office three days a week, mostly for meetings. I love having that balance, as it helps to structure my week.

Despite being massively successful already and receiving six business awards to date, Revolent is still a new company. So, most people, including me, are quite new, and there are lots of exciting plans for growth. It's really nice to be part of that sort of environment where you can see the business really scaling up, with plenty of opportunities to develop even further.

Revolent also promotes a good work-life balance—it doesn't feel like a typical ‘nine-to-five.' The company really emphasizes that, as long as you get your work done, they trust you. This is so important to me as my previous role in a recruitment agency was more about appearances and being seen in the office nine-to-five, not what I actually got done in those hours. And that can feel really demotivating.

Another difference to my previous role that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed is the fantastic support network available, which really helps you to progress. We have lots of communication channels to make sure that everyone feels connected and isn’t left out when working remotely.

When I first started, I got my laptop and a training schedule from the Learning & Development Team. To be very honest, it did feel a bit intense at first, especially as I didn’t know much about Salesforce and other cloud technologies that we work with. There were lots of training sessions and, at times, I was struggling with information overload.

But now that I look back, I feel like the content and timing of each session made sense, because it really allowed me to get my processes right. I was at my previous job for four years, doing high volume recruitment across multiple sectors and roles, but there was no training structure when I first joined.?And that’s what I was used to when I joined Revolent, so it’s refreshing to see such a well-planned onboarding process in play.

Why I joined Revolent and why, six months on, I still love it here...

I joined Revolent because I wanted to further my career in ?Talent Acquisition, plus I was attracted by the amazing opportunities the company offered. They cross-train IT professionals who wish to become cloud experts across in-demand technologies such as Salesforce, AWS, and Microsoft Cloud. Those already working in tech know how big these ecosystems are, but it can be so hard to get your foot in the door, which is where we come in. Our plans for growth are massive, which obviously means more opportunities, and that's what really got me.

During my interview, I expressed my desire to step into a more managerial position. I have experience in retail management, which helps a bit. But, of course, it’s a completely different story in the corporate world, when it comes to leading a team and being a coach and mentor. Revolent has really provided me with that opportunity.

Soon after I started, my managers provided me with a Personal Development Plan to see what I needed to improve on. That’s how I began training to become a Team Leader and met with Penny Wood, Revolent’s Senior L&D Coach and Professional Skills Trainer. We had regular coaching sessions where I could talk about the aspects of the role I was struggling with, and she’d give me advice on how I could improve in those areas. At Revolent, they actually give you the skills to manage, not just the title. It’s really refreshing to experience it, and this sort of support is available across our teams globally.

So, what’s different about Revolent?

Firstly, there's so much support here, not just compared to my old role but also from conversations that I’ve had with my friends about their experiences at work. At Revolent, the training is planned and ‘by-the-book' which provides you with a structure, and that's what I’ve enjoyed most as I’ve got to grips with my role here. As I say, everything just makes sense.

Secondly, I also love that diverse hiring practices are embedded into our recruitment processes. On top of that, in early 2022 we’re launching a really exciting initiative in Australia, The Indigenous Tech Academy, in partnership with PwC’s Indigenous Consulting. I think that's an amazing idea, and really helps make careers in tech more accessible for Indigenous Australians. So, I'm really looking forward to being a part of that.?

And finally, I feel really valued by my colleagues and management. Obviously, we get a commission once we hit our targets, which is nice! But for me, I'm a pretty simple guy. So, seeing emails from Nabila Salem, the President of Revolent, saying well done is absolutely fantastic. For example, I got six hires in my first month, which exceeded the norm, and it was just nice for that effort to be noticed and mentioned—it’s also made me feel a lot more motivated to do well within the company. It's such a simple little thing but it goes a long way for me and everyone on the team. We're also going to go out for lunch soon, rules permitting, to celebrate our success, and I’m really looking forward to that, too.

So, if you’re looking for a new job for the New Year, why not consider joining Revolent? Honestly, I couldn't recommend it more! You can find all our latest roles on the company’s LinkedIn page.
