Why Is There a Need for LXP?
Gone are the days of generic Learning Management Systems (LMS) with predictable treatments towards the learners. The new and improved Learning Experience Platforms (LXP) are more learner centric, and hence offering a better Learning & Development (L&D) outcome.?
LXPs are certainly the need of the hour since now more and more employees are working from remote locations and they all need a sensitive and understanding learning system to cater to their varied needs. From the perspective of the organisations, an LXP seems to be a solid investment in terms of gaining back the trust and the confidence of the employees. [1]
LMS and LXPs
The main issues pertaining to a traditional LMS is that it fails to incorporate external elements into the system. This hinders the social and collaborative learning process which the modern employees more desperately need. [3]
Working from remote locations, the employees feel the need to socially connect via their training and development programs. The mutual interactions between the trainer and the learners and also between the learners enhance the modern learning process. This is exactly where LXP plays an important role. [2,3]
Many experts argue that in any large scale organisation the business requirements are alway changing at a very rapid pace. That is the reason why a traditional LMS cannot fully support the changing L & D needs of the learners.?
With altering business goals and technology the learners need to be trained faster and more proficiently keeping in mind that they also have fun whilst learning. These requirements are adjusted by a good LXP.?
Who feels the need for LXP??
Organisations which have implemented a full-scale LMS and yet to get the desired results are the prime candidates to obtain an LXP. A failed LMS not only affects the learners but also irks the L&D managers of the companies.?
In a generic LMS setting the L&D managers need to make time out of their work schedule to chalk out a contingency plan for their employees. There is always a hidden time and cost associated with this kind of planning strategy. Moreover, sometimes the lack of interest from certain employees delays the process thereby hindering the training program. [2]
That is why larger organisations have more success with implementing an LXP when compared to the smaller ones.
What Can an LXP do??
If the organisation has a large source of L & D content then LXP can help them process the information and gear the learners towards the correct learning resources.?
As mentioned before, an LXP is a much more intelligent and sensitive system when compared to a LMS. That is the reason why companies needing to train a large number of employees or have a huge L & D training content will need an LXP to support their online learning goals. [1, 2]
In such situations, the presence of a LXP makes a huge difference because it reduces the load of the L&D managers and also at the same time it allows the learners to thrive and excel within the organisational environment.?
The intelligent and sensitive learning platform is more learner centric by nature when compared to its older counterpart in the form of an LMS.?

Future of Business Learning?
The truth is that in all modern organisations the employees are by nature digital learners. They consume digital products day in and day out, in the form of videos, photos, and also online blogs. Podcasts are also a recent favourite amongst young consumers in reminiscence of the golden radio days. [3]
So, that is why, the online learning contents cannot also be one dimensional. It has to be sensitive and as per taste. But the current stream of L & D managers can not just be satisfied by delivering mundane powerpoint presentations which the audience will observe half-heartedly. They need active participation by delivering high quality digital contents with which the learners can connect and also offer inputs. [3]
This is the future of business learning and this is where a system like the LXP becomes relevant. If the organisation has a large amount of digital training content the LXP will direct the employees to the relevant ones based on their prior learning habits.?
An LXP can certainly replace a traditional LMS in an organisation considering it has a huge employee base and also a quantifiable pool of training data. However, in a smaller organisation it does not become that much relevant since the L & D managers themselves can guide the employees and offer more personalised training with the help of a traditional LMS.?
