Mental health issues are a severe problem that is affecting the daily life activities of the people around the world. The spread of deadly virus COVID-19 has devastated businesses, jobs, and families worldwide leading to more number of mental health-related cases reported by the Psychiatrists. Mental illness can have adverse effects on one’s personality, health and brain if it is not consulted with a doctor soon.
What is Mental Health?
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “ a state of physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.
According to WHO, “Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively, and can make a contribution to his or her community.”
Why Mental Health awareness is vital for us?
Mental health is entirely different from physical health. In our society, we see mental health as a social taboo, and we don’t discuss it. Due to this, when a person is experiencing difficulties in processing their thoughts positively, he cannot share it with friends and family members because of social stigma.
Mental health issues could arise due to various mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, unemployment, overthinking about past and future events, sleep disorder and stress.
If you face a problem related to mental health, share it with friends and family members or even consult with a doctor. Let them know how you feel so that you can identify the root cause of the issue and get support from the people around you.
How to manage mental health and well being.
Stress is inevitable in our personal as well as professional work life. In today’s fast-paced business environment where the competition is cut-throat, working professionals get exhausted with work pressure leading to stress and lack of sleep due to improper work-life balance. Work-related stress can lead to depression, anxiety, change in performance and productivity level of an employee.
Some of the ways to manage mental health in personal life as well as a workplace are:
Socialize
Human beings are social creatures, and we must connect with friends and family members and grow in a community. You can also join different groups or volunteer for a cause in your local community. It helps in building healthy relationships with each other and creates a positive environment.
Meditation
Meditation is a natural process that includes mind and body to focus on a particular object or thought. Meditation has helped relieve stress and bring calmness in our body and mind. It can improve our focus and concentration on daily work activities.
Positive Attitude
A positive approach to our attitude and thinking improves our mental health condition. Some examples of the positive attitude could be learning new skills, helping someone in need, and being empathetic and compassionate towards people. It helps build self-confidence and self-awareness.
Daily Activity
Activities such as exercise, cycling, walking are essential in maintaining good physical and mental health. These activities reduce stress and anxiety by releasing chemicals in the brain, which makes us feel good and happy.
I would appreciate, if you share your valuable thoughts on #MentalHealthAwareness if you think it needs to be taken care with utmost priority.

3 年Excellent and important information sir. Really this is most important one. Mental health is normally very strong and powerful to all's. But some times it's handling by ways of human's. It's very stressful and pitiable situations. It's not easy to share to others. Reason of family, society, circle dignity and respect. Some people's only have guts to bring to media and perform with brave. Usually in this thing's most of affected by women's only. Sexual harrasment, man handling, misbehaving, black mailing, and other so many ways. But we must avoiding and give respect to everyone is the good ways. Because women's also lives our house with lot of roles. This is my humble opinion

3 年A neglected public health concern. The ignorance and often the unacceptance of mental health issues in our Indian societies is quite concerning. Great topic to discuss Dr. G S K Velu !
