Why is my website not showing up on Google

What I have Learned After Uploading Websites to the internet

"How long will it take for my new website to be shown on Google?"

I get asked this often as an SEO Expert and it is not the easiest question to answer even though the reason is simple. The indexing part of Google consists of thousands of server robots known as web spiders, which work around the clock to crawl millions and millions of websites on a daily basis. They do their job well — very well. But that doesn't mean they won't skip some websites every now and then.

When a website first goes live, the first user to see it is you. Yes, when you create a new website and visit it on your browser, it is?You?who sees it first.

The rest of the world will have to wait for a little while until Google visits your site with its spider and indexes your website so other users can see it too.

But how long does this wait take?

If a website has 500 pages or less, it will be crawled within 3 to 4 weeks. If a website has more than 500 web pages, it will take longer for these pages to be crawled by search engine bots. Every time you add more content to your site, it will take an additional 3 to 4 weeks for the search engine bot to crawl those additional webpages and changes.

To give you perspective on how long that actually is – It takes about 10 years for light from the sun to reach us here on Earth. If you are impatient, it might be exciting to know that Google updates happen every day and we have to always meet their set standards online as webmasters.

It takes slightly more than 3 months for a website with 500 to 25,000 web pages to be crawled by search engine bots but if you're lucky and your competition isn't too aggressive, you may even get away with 6 months.

When a new website is created it is not indexed. Google will not suddenly visit your site one day and say "this site has now been added to our index".

To get a website indexed and ranked in the search results an outside force (called a search bot) must visit your site and add it to their list. This means if you have just created your new website, you need 500 bots to visit your site just so that your site can be crawled. If you have what I consider a small website (under 500 pages) it could take about six months for all of the pages on your website to be crawled fully for indexing.

Did you know Google created its first-ever search engine bot in 1996? Since then they have been looking at every website and keeping a catalogue of everything as part of their Webmaster Central index and ranking algorithm but somewhat shockingly, Google has never told us how they schedule their crawling and indexing of websites, so we have to rely on third-party expertise to estimate how long it takes for a new website to be crawled.

Today, many people like to talk about how it takes so long for Google to discover a new website. This is why many people ask questions such as "How long does it take for Google to crawl my new website?", or "When will my website be listed on Google?".

Googlebot crawls up to 500,000 pages a second and is scouring the internet in search of new content including every link, image, or piece of code in the ever-growing number of websites online. However, it is a misconception that once you have published your website, it will be crawled immediately.

The reality is that it takes between 4 and 12 months for a website with more than 25,000 web pages to be crawled by search engine bots. It is one of the longest waiting periods among all the steps involved in the Search Engine Optimization process, and a full analysis conducted by?Searchmetrics?shows that there are over 90% of websites without any inbound links or website mentions, which can further increase the delay for the indexing process, considering more than?1.985+ billion websites are online?waiting to be crawled, indexed, and ranked on Google's page 1 (which only shows 10 search results) as soon as yesterday.

If you're looking to know when your website will be listed on Google, there's no black-and-white answer to that question. There are many factors that go into a website being indexed, and Google does not share everything about how its systems work. It's a complex algorithm, to say the least. Most of the time, Google does a very good job of listing websites. However, for some sites with over 50,000 web pages, it might take some time to be indexed. This is mostly because the site has a lot of content, web pages, images, and code, and has frequent changes, so popular search engines like Yahoo, Bing, and more might take some time to index them. We will discuss what it takes for your website to be ranked by Google on a different article.

Also, if the website is not linked to any other popular websites or blogs then this also makes it hard for search engine bots to crawl your website. In such cases, though you can't do much as there are no magical tricks that can speed up the process, and as far as Google is concerned, there's not much more you can do apart from wait.

You need to create quality, original content and ensure that search engines can find it through rich snippets, linking efficiency, Page rank, cache size, optimized images, fast loading speed, and descriptive URLs. This may not be an immediate process, but once everything is up and running, you should start seeing the results of your hard work within a fairly short amount of time.

Otherwise, there's not really much for you to do except wait patiently for the search engines to pick up on your content in their next crawl, and I'm here to tell you with certainty that it will happen: "Soon. Very Soon!"
