Why is my classroom stale?
Australia ... what a truly lucky country, in many facets of life including indoor air quality problems. Unlike Malaysia, mould problems can develop fast and quick, before you know it the entire ceilings and wall can be covered with mould. Mould growth is infrequent especially in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth due to our relatively dry ambient conditions.
Mould problems can cause serious health issues, for example, "Crippled by damp classroom." So what is the main cause of mould growth, ask any airconditioning engineers, we will be quick to reply "ventilation". Adequate ventilation is required for health reasons and to mitigate problems like mould growth.
We have the Building Code of Australia/ National Construction Code referencing AS1668 series for mandatory compliance, but why are some schools not provisioned with the appropriate outside air for ventilation?
