Why is MrBeast uploading his videos to X?
It looks like Elon Musk's pleas and begging worked - MrBeast has uploaded a video onto X, stating that "[He's] curious how much ad revenue a video on X would make so I'm reuploading this to test it."?
But, how did we get to the point where MrBeast uploads content to X??
In late 2023, Elon Musk disclosed that X is rolling out with some new features, such as Subscriptions and a creator monetization program, with the hopes of turning X into the "best platform for creators".?
Soon after, X users who were a part of the creator monetization program started sharing how much they made on the social media platform - and the numbers were shocking. Users were getting paid tens of thousands of dollars just for posting Tweets!?
Obviously, it seemed too good to be true.?
Then, KSI, a YouTuber with more than 24M subscribers who also posts on X regularly and gets millions of views per Tweet, also shared how much he made on X - $1,590.?
Fast forward to January 2024, MrBeast shared with his X followers that he uploaded a new video to YouTube so "go watch or [he'll] drop kick you", which received the response - "upload on this platform too." And, this is what MrBeast had to say:
Earlier this week, MrBeast kept his promise and uploaded his most recent 16-minute video to test just how much ad revenue a video on X would make:?
We are intrigued to see how MrBeast's content fares when it comes to monetization on the social media platform. So far, his X post which includes his full-length video - $1 Car vs. $100,000,000 Car - has gotten 29K retweets, 299K likes, 12K comments, and?76M views (although this doesn't show how many times the actual video was viewed).?
It's important to keep in mind that according to its monetization regulations, X only counts views from X Premium subscribers. So, only those paying at least $8 per month will count towards a 'view' and users that aren't premium subscribers will not count towards a creator's monetization.?

Our take: It seems like X is so determined to get creators on the platform that it isn't thinking through its creator monetization program. The social media platform field is super competitive, with YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram consistently updating its creator monetization offerings. And, creators are ultimately going to put their efforts where the rewards are greatest. It's great that MrBeast is putting X's creator monetization program to the test but, at the end of the day - there's only one uber-successful creator like MrBeast (and other creators will likely not see the same results as MrBeast on X).?
