"Why" is more important than "How"

Having a "Why" rather than a "How" is super important. If you haven't read "Start with Why" by Simon Sinek then add it to your list. It's a great calibrator for your thought process.
I want to share with you all "Why" I started Veteran Owned UK.
I didn't come up with the idea for a business directory for Veteran Owned Businesses, it was an existing concept in the USA and there are several big Directories over there that spread the word about Veteran Owned Businesses very well.
I came across one of those site one evening when browsing the internet as you do. I loved the idea of allowing the public to find a business selling the product or service that they needed but owned by a Veteran. They could then support that Veteran by using their business to buy something they were going to buy anyway.
But there was a higher opportunity buried within this great concept.
How Veterans are perceived by the public.
Often, when someone uses the word "Veteran" in the media it is in a negative or sympathetic context. It is publicised when someone has been injured or has mental health issues, or when someone is homeless and going through a rough patch in their life.
There are a whole host of charities out there that do amazing things to help this group (although more can be done by the Government but that's another post on it's own).
But I would suggest there are a larger number of Veterans out there that do great things or even just average things (but I don't believe any of us are average). But this side of the coin very rarely gets any attention. That's where I want to play my part to change that view.
So why the photo of Dr Martin Luther King you ask?
Dr King believed that the world should be a different way to how it was. He believed 100% whole heartedly. He didn't sell it to people on "How" he was going to change the world, but "Why" the world should change. As one man, he amassed a following that led to a change in a country that was deeply divided at the time. His famous "I have a Dream" speech had over 250k spectators.
Think about that for a second!
In an age where there was no internet, no social media, very little access to publicity for coloured people in the South, he managed to get a quarter of a million people to all turn up at the same time in the same place to listen to what he had to say!!!!!!
They did it because they could understand his "Why" and they bought in to that whole heartedly too.
Now I'm no Martin Luther King. But I want you all to see "Why" I'm building Veteran Owned UK and what it means to us as a community demorgraphic.
We deserve to be seen in a positive light.
We deserve to be seen to do positive things and not just for the negative or unfortunate things.
We deserve for people to see our skills, our work ethic, our drive, our passion, our willingness to serve others before ourselves.
We have a lot to give, whether it's to the business world as Entrepreneurs or as employees in another organisation or even as volunteers in a charity or as members of the local community.
Use the skills you learnt in your service and believe in what you are doing. Tell others your "Why" and they will believe too.
Then, nothing can stop us.
Thanks.
