Why more and more Graduates are considering a career in Recruitment...?

For the last 5 years I have specialised in supporting graduates with securing careers in the Recruitment sector. It seems year on year, more and more graduates have really researched what Recruitment offers and are excited to start a career in the industry!

In this article I explore why that is the case and help to educate any graduates still on the fence. Below are the main reasons I believe Recruitment is a really great option for graduates - reach out to me to chat further or find out more about the sector.

1. Career Opportunities

High performers can advance very quickly into senior leadership roles.

Recruitment is a meritocratic industry and most agencies prefer to promote internally rather than bring in senior talent. This means as a graduate entering the industry, you can develop your career very rapidly and take on extra responsibilities, such as managing, early on.

All of 27 Talent's clients have transparent promotion criteria and progression pathways to leadership roles, this means you know exactly what you need to do to get from a Graduate Recruiter all the way to Director in most cases.

2. Earning Potential

Recruitment is an environment that rewards hard work and high performance with genuinely life changing financial gains. Recruiters can absolutely earn 6 figures in their 3rd full year and most companies will have case studies and tangible examples of individuals that have achieved this.

The more successful you are, the more you make your business and the more you earn, it's as simple as that. If you are financially motivated, Recruitment is the place for you!

For graduates joining the sector they can expect a £25-30k basic salary and can expect to earn an additional £15-25k in their first year. I have personally placed and worked alongside recruiters that have surpassed £50k in their first year.

3. Personal Development

Recruitment agencies hiring graduates offer very comprehensive training and invest a huge amount of money into developing graduates into successful recruiters. Because of the fast progression to management that you can experience, it's important that employers develop your skills early and will support graduates with this.

Many graduates (myself included!) are surprised at their own development - through internal training but also, meeting with clients (business leaders), having to be resourceful and the general problem solving you encounter in the role.

4. Variety of the work

In the simplest form, recruitment is simply finding available positions for candidates and finding available candidates for positions HOWEVER, there is so much involved in being an agency recruiter. Many graduates find the variety of work and people you will engage with to be a lot more enticing than other more tedious career options.

5. Additional Benefits

One of the best things about the Recruitment sector! Be rewarded beyond the commission, beyond the promotions and pay rises, beyond the fulfilment of finding your candidate their dream job...

I'm talking; all expenses paid lunch clubs at the city's finest restaurants, voucher and cash giveaways for going above target, monthly and yearly rewards for top performers and the big one... all expenses paid holiday incentives!

One of 27 Talent's clients runs FOUR holiday targets per year!

6. Entrepreneurial Mindset

Recruitment teaches you to think outside of the box. Plan ahead of time. Problem solve. Be innovative. Prioritise tasks. Be efficient and productive.

This list goes on but the point is, Recruitment teaches you very important skills which ultimately can create an entrepreneurial mindset and push you to succeed great things.

7. It's a challenge!

Not everyone can be successful as a Recruitment consultant. You need a mixture of skills including communication and organisation but also a mixture of attributes including resilience and a strong work-ethic! It also pays to be ambitious, driven, emotionally intelligent and confident.

To find out more about what's on offer or whether it could be a suitable career path for you, get in touch with us at 27 Talent!

Interesting read. I am a few years ahead of my graduate years now, but I can relate to most still. It was a jump for me coming into this job, but I definitely love the point about progression and no day being the same. That's the exciting part of recruitment, you don't get bored!
