Why the "Moral Majority" Adopts Leaders such as Trump

Raised originally in a religious "rightish" family, I remember how diligently we watched for the antichrist, second coming, etc. Yet in history classes it showed me again and again that my group, the Moral Majority, embraced each antichrist as they came along pretty much hook, line, and sinker. Trump was no exception.

To be fair, our leaders millennia ago knew this tendency and hence wrote prophesies in the books of Daniel, Revelations, etc. which caused us to constantly watch for bad leaders. In fact the entire Old Testament has this reoccurring theme of Israel going astray, being punished, and repenting just in case prophesies were not enough. But even with all this you simply cannot fix stupid. I came to realize "stupid" is learned by 1) claiming a monopoly on truth, 2) being the "chosen" people (and thus intolerant of others), and 3) thinking God will torcher anyone forever if they don't believe in "X" whatever "X" is and finally 4) somehow believe given all this that this God is still the definition of morality.

Ironically, these parts of the religion are necessary as they spread the teachings of the core figure Jesus which can be summarized as "love your neighbor and God which is one in the same." These "sexual" parts define the boundaries and differentiate the religion from other religions. They also violate the core believe of love and unity. In Jesus the Gospel stories demonstrates this war between the core message of love verses evangelism and growth. Specifically, Jesus experienced every feeling a human has except two - guilt and shame. However, if you do not feel guilt (feel bad for what you do) by definition you are a narcissist. If you do not feel shame (care about what others think of what you did) you are also a psychopath or sociopath.

Usually, the antichrists among us have one of these two disabilities. And for a long time society has needed these people. Since these folks cannot socially conform, like a crystal in a solution, everyone adapts socially to their lead and unifies the group in purpose and direction, building a single large crystal. Unfortunately, this social mechanism is ill adapted to the modern era with its siloed, virtual groups. In the checkerboard of social sites and subgroups, it is easier for these folks to find and gaslight a small group. These groups compete and sow more division and drama among each other, dividing mankind even further.

Since Jesus had the same disabilities of diminished/unexpressed guilt and shame, the wolves, like Trump, often slip in undetected. Worse, they often are admired for decisiveness and making complicated issues simple, unhampered by the social glue of guilt and shame. They elevate discussions into a fight-or-flight situation, which leads to all-or-nothing thinking, and amplifies the decision to a simple "yes" or "no."

This is why this pattern repeats throughout history among the Moral Majority. It is a story of a wolf appearing in wolf clothing. Without knowing it, the Moral Majority's longing for God and the final rapture is really a longing for the next antichrist to "prechew" reality into a series of easy "Yes" or "No" decisions with attached moral judgement of "right" or "wrong" and layer on yet another cycle of going astray, punishment, and repentance for the history books.
