WHY IS MENTAL HEALTH IMPORTANT FOR LEADERS?

Your Career Strategist & Coach

I help high-performing professionals – like you – transition into exciting jobs with higher levels of earning potential and career satisfaction.

This month, we're delving into a topic that's close to my heart: "Why is Mental Health Important for Leaders?" In the whirlwind of leadership, it's essential to remember that leaders are human beings with their own mental well-being to nurture.

Leaders, as we know, carry an incredible weight of responsibility. What's often overlooked is how their mental well-being influences decision-making, team dynamics, and the overall workplace atmosphere.

Imagine a leader who prioritizes their mental health. Their positivity, empathy, and resilience ripple throughout the organization, creating a culture where everyone thrives.

Empowering Leaders: Strategies for Success

1. Embrace Self-awareness:?When leaders understand their emotional needs and when to seek support, they lead with clarity and strength.

2.?Promote Balance:?Let's champion work-life integration and harmony to set an example that resonates throughout the organization.

3. Education and Support: Organizations that provide resources and programs focused on mental health highlight their commitment to their leaders' well-being.

As a community, we can create a space where leaders feel encouraged to discuss their mental health and well-being. Let's be advocates for open conversations, provide resources, and celebrate leaders who prioritize self-care.

At Be Productive Coaching , we recognize that leaders bear a significant responsibility, and their mental well-being plays a pivotal role in shaping their leadership journey. Last month, we focused on "The 5 Must-Have Transferable Skills."?We spoke about "Leadership with Empathy," two topics that have been hot this year.?If you missed reading that issue, you don't have to worry; you can access it by going to this link: Keeping You Productive October Newsletter .

The topic of focus this month is "Why is mental health and being mentally fit is?important for leaders."

Before we move on, I want to share what I was up to in October. Last week, I was grateful for an inspiring week connecting with event professionals?at?#IMEX23 . Despite the fatigue from the non-stop coaching, speaking, and networking,?I left IMEX America?super excited about the industry's future.

Over the last 16 months, I've spoken at eight (8) conferences, and the energy at?#IMEX23 ?was unmatched. After a 5-year hiatus, reconnecting with industry colleagues and meeting those I've connected with online in person was the highlight. Nothing beats face-to-face interactions.?

Each morning of the conference, I was left inspired by the incredible Keynotes?Nick Santonastasso ?and?Erin King , beautifully curated by my friends at?Meeting Professionals International .

Speaking of "speakers," it was beautiful to see so many of my friends take the stage this year. I also enjoyed reconnecting with?Christopher Kai ?after hearing him speak at the?World Happiness Fest - bēCREATION ?at FIU earlier this year.

I was part of an area they named the "Inspiration Hub," which focused on wellness. My session, "Cut Yourself Some Slack: Cultivate Empathy, Combat Judgement," delved into quieting the inner critic. I had the honor of coaching 15 professionals one-on-one and leading group sessions for 6 and 13 participants. I came back to Miami with a heart filled with joy after being able to serve so many individuals.?

Like most conferences, there were many evening receptions and dinners.

My evening highlights were: ?Lip Smacking Culinary Tour - if you are ever in Vegas, this is a must. So yummy! Here is their website:?https://lipsmackingfoodietours.com/ ?Hard Rock International?hosted a?#pinktober ?party in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, and I was invited thanks to my friends at the?Hard Rock Guitar Hotel.? ?I was also invited to a delicious dinner at?Roku Japanese Restaurant ?by my friends at the?Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau . Another fantastic restaurant that is a must if you are in Vegas. They have some of the best fresh quality Nigri Sushi I've ever had. It literally melted in your mouth! ? And lastly, on the last evening, I was hosted by?Meeting Professionals International ?to attend the MPI's Foundation Rendezvous party at?Drai's Las Vegas . If you've never been to Drai's you must go. Drai's got one of the best views of the strip, and their light show for evening events is spectacular. If you are a technology and audio-visual enthusiast, you will be impressed.?

In the past 18 months, as I've engaged in speaking and coaching at conferences, a significant insight has emerged. It revolves around the essential elements of mental well-being, humanity, and community within the workplace. With attendees and industry leaders returning to in-person conferences after three pandemic-affected years, the palpable enthusiasm and energy in these gatherings are undeniably uplifting. However, what's become increasingly apparent through active participation in wellness sessions and my coaching conversations is a shift in employee needs.

People now seek to harmonize their work and personal lives, emphasizing self-care and a sense of purpose in their professional roles. Furthermore, they yearn for recognition and value for their contributions. These are precisely the attributes that mentally fit leaders can provide.

Currently, I'm collaborating with a team of senior leaders from a DC-based organization enrolled in my Positive Intelligence PQ Powered Teams 7-Week Program. In our recent weekly meeting, the organization's chief shared a profound sentiment that underscores the significance of leadership mental wellness. He aptly stated, "Everyone is dealing with something of their own. People are facing emotional and financial stress in these challenging times. As leaders, we must be more empathetic and acknowledge the human aspect in the workplace. We should create an environment where individuals can express their humanity, emotions, and everything that makes them human within their professional roles." These words resonate profoundly and exemplify what organizations should prioritize now – investing in their employees and fostering professional growth through enhancing mental fitness and interpersonal connections.

I would greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts on this subject. Please feel free to email me your insights at [email protected] .

But before we conclude, we have a few more valuable insights below.

??Here's a brief recap of my?#IMEX2023 ?experience!??

Testimony from a person who went to my?session at IMEX. She stopped me as I was exiting the show on the last day to tell me what an impact my session had on her. I couldn't help but ask for a brief video testimonial.??
