Why Martial Arts is important for Children?

Weekends are mostly time to unwind from work and be more present/engaged with my kids. Part of my eldest; Arriel who's 6 year old weeklies is Muay Thai.?

My 3 key expectations from him growing up:

1. Strive to continuously learn (be curious) as knowledge is an on-going process regardless of age and I'll support his interest and path (with guidance) in the future (at current it's a Wildlife Veterinarian)

2. Always remain humble, be a better person without any expectations in return and help others in any way he could

3. Learn martial arts (no compromise)

Why martial arts? Below are my top 4 factors of importance on how this benefits children.?

1. They will learn how to defend themselves

I was mentally and physically bullied (Yup!) during school days and as a parent (like any other), it would be a concern if our kids go through the same. I'm glad I never had a reason to be engaged in any physical altercation after picking up Karate since I was 14 years old and even though its part and parcel of our kids "growing up", I rather have them prepared . An unconventional advice I've given my son if he ever gets bullied:

1st time: Tell them "Stop! Don't do it"?

2nd time: Tell your Teacher

3rd time: He has my permission to apply what he has learn :)

2. It teaches them Discipline and Focus

It's certainly hard to build discipline and focus in children nowadays (parents would no doubt agree with this). With martial arts, over time, children will learn focus, restraint, patience and many other qualities that come with discipline. The same level of focus and discipline obtained from martial arts will eventually become part of their daily lives.?

3. They will learn Respect

Most martial arts are built on the foundation of respect. Respect for the teacher, respect for the room, for themselves and the environment. Even when lessons are over, kids who practice martial arts can maintain this emphasis in the real world around them.?

4. Away from Gadgets and TV!

Like most kids, Arriel is into console games and tablets. Whilst he's not allowed to play with his PS and Xbox on school days (only weekends and public holidays) whereas for tablet, it's on controlled durations allowed on weekdays (as long as homeworks are completed). With the importance of outdoor activities for many children in the world today, martial arts helps them stay active and fit as well as strengthen their mind. Martial arts push anyone to break barriers and overcome fears and obstacles. It's also a good and safe way for kids to get extra energy.?

Martial arts develop character in many ways. Children will learn resilience, goal setting, teamwork, establishing leadership skills, building self-esteem and even courage.?

Growing up, I just know it's the place for me to release all my tension and energy. Now that I'm all grown up. Realized that it taught me alot. https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/mikeyip_there-was-a-time-when-all-these-belts-meant-activity-7110435090496716800-RmKG?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_android
