Why many mini-missions?

"Let's put a man on the moon.” Those were the famous words of J.F. Kennedy in the 1960’s. It was a bold and audacious mission that captured the world's attention and inspired generations. It was a testament to visionary thinking and willingness to take risks for the greater good.?

Fast forward to today, and we face even more daunting challenges, from the environment to societal issues. However, for governments around the world, saving the planet seems to lack the enthusiasm of putting a man on the moon.

The scale of the problem is overwhelming, and it's easy to lose motivation.?But what if we broke down these issues into a million, smaller, more achievable challenges?

That's where 1Million Mini Missions comes in, to encourage doable localised, achievable initiatives that have a direct impact, showing us how easy it is to do more.?

Cynthia sharing her idea for a local mini-mission

Instead of being asked to ‘share an idea’ (that gets lost in space) like most community engagement models, 1MMM aims to encourage citizen-led participation and action across many different locations.??

As Jon Alexander states in his book Citizens “multiple crises of our time can be solved; what is required is that we all recognise and step into our agency not just as consumers, but as producers, investors, owners, and above all, citizens”

1MMM encourages autonomy and self determination and shines a spotlight on the influence each of us can have. When replicated at scale, change can start to unfold.?

Each community starts with a work of art on the Mini-Mission fountain. This embodies the new energy of the community and is effectively the first mini mission in each locality.?

Let's channel that same spirit of determination and innovation that landed us on the moon and start making a difference, one mini-mission at a time.

Thanx! At ZILLOMAN we work a lot on sustainability, in fact we transformed our business plan to a sustainability plan. Main focus on social sustainability in our case. In our work we tend to end up in the concept of 'doability' in Swedish 'r?dighet' As in 'what can we do'? A little bit like Pippi Longstocking everyday doing something for the better. When this routine is combined with clear goals and an evaluation to see if we do it better than before it all feels like we're going in the right direction.
