WHY IT MAKES SENSE TO HAVE AN ACCOUNTANT

Some people start their businesses without an accountant.

How simple does that sound?

But not many continue to flourish without one.

Copywriter Nicki Cawood says: “I’m a freelancer and have used an accountant for years. My only complaint? I didn’t think to do it sooner. No looking over my shoulder wondering if I’ve done everything right, someone I trust to answer financial questions, and it frees up so much of my time as well as saves me money, despite paying out for such services.

I had five to six stressful years of tears and tantrums before I hired an accountant. I assumed that early on I wasn’t earning enough or needed one however I now know through the beauty of hindsight that the best accountants tailor what they offer to suit.”

We hear you Nicki.

Reflexologist Jo Brindley is at the start of her business and has been advised not to take on an accountant until the new financial year. “It’s a bit slow to start with,” she says.

We understand Jo’s outlook.

But do we agree?

Not really.

There are excellent reasons for hiring an accountant right from the word “go”.

If you think you can’t afford an accountant, you may even discover you can’t afford not to have one.

From business planning, company formation, loan applications, to even when facing a tax investigation, an accountant will make your business path a smoother one.

You don’t need an accountant all the time, they can do as little or as much as you want. You’re the boss.

And many accountants, like our team for example, go the extra mile to do so much more than supporting you in working out your tax affairs.

We support, encourage, nurture and promote our clients. We have a thriving community of other customers, suppliers and contacts whom we call on to support each other and work together to maximise business opportunities.

We’re very grateful to our client Stuart of XK Parts, who says: “Since I met Tim Hammond, he has given me good solid advice and I decided to take on Makes Sense as my accountants and also to use their payroll services for my business.

This in itself saved me thousands of pounds, and he often sends me updates on tax allowances I was not advised of by his predecessor (even though they charged me double!). He is also active with business networking and has directed a number of funding specialist and other advisors to me, who have been very helpful (unlike the cold call, telephone liars, that ring me each day). I guess you could say ‘ it all Makes Sense to work with him ‘ (sorry!)”

Linda Aitchison, who has gone from running a PR agency to working for herself as a journalist and publicity expert says: “Even though my business finances are now much more straightforward, I wouldn’t dream of not benefiting from an accountant’s expertise.

I am so busy, I absolutely have to delegate. And peace of mind that an expert is there to make sure everything is as it should be is crucial when it comes to accounts.

Not delegating would mean I would feel overworked and stressed. At some point we all need to let go, trust the experts and get on with it.”
