Why Madeira?

Why Madeira?

It's been a while since I have felt like writing anything as the world and tourism has been turnt upside down, peoples lifes have changed and nothing is as it was before.

You now call the TA that you knew fo the last 15 years and they no longer work there as I am sure many of you have called me to find that I too have taken on a new challenge, the green light for Madeira is on and the question on your mind I am sure is why Madeira, well being born and bred in London and living in Madeira for the last 20 years, I can only share with you why did I stay.... so here goes a locals opinion of Why Madeira!

First and foremost and probably the most important of all to me is the weather, how great it is to wake up every morning and just not be cold or see the rain, the winter here lasts for about 3 months from Late November to Early March and when I mean cold I mean the average 16oC we have!

The food, yes we are well known for our great food and the best thing is that it is very tasty and not expensive at all, you can have a great dinner for 2 including wine for around 50 euros, and yes not forgetting the wine, Portuguese wines are some of the best I have tasted and a good bottle in a local restaurant will cost you around 15 euro

The waterfalls, all around Madeira you can find the most beautiful waterfalls as you are driving around, some of them are right in the middle of the road and you drive right through them, others you can find at the end of the levadas, the views on this island are amazing with hand made tunnels that you can drive through, it really is a little paradise.

The beaches, well yes we don't have yellow sandy beaches but we have amazing black ones and the natural sea pools are just the perfect place to swim, this one is Seixal has a ittle BBQ at the top, so you can make your BBQ down there if you arrive early and save your spot.

The city of Funchal is the best place to stay when you are in Madeira, the old town is great in the evenings and all around town you can find great places to eat, little bars with live music or just sit at a coffee shop during the day and watch Madeirans Life, I have recently joined the Sé Boutique hotel set in the centre of town, it has the best rooftop bar on the island and is set bang in the city centre, the rooms are ample and you can hear no noise from the outside. The new pool and spa have just added to it's charm.

So there it is just a few words on why I fell in love with Madeira, if you would like to join me in Paradise contact me on [email protected] we would love to welcome you and have that drink on the rooftop bar!
