“The only way to move forward is by looking back”?
This is probably the only one time you will be able to say this positively;
It’s so true, it’s so important to do an end of year review and look back. Reflecting on the year can be very beneficial for your improvement in your business and your self-improvement. If you haven’t done a year review I would highly recommend it.
Reflecting helps to develop your skills and review their effectiveness, rather than just carry on doing things as you have always done them. It's about questioning, in a positive way, what you do and why you do it and then deciding whether there is a better, or more efficient, way of doing it in the future.
Here are a few reasons why it’s such a good idea;
You can review your self-development
You are the most important person in your life and business and if you are happy, healthy and fulfilled then you will be able to put so much into your business and also your relationships with other people.
As you reflect on the year you will be able to see what you achieved, what good habits you were able to incorporate into your life and which ones you were able to leave behind. It will make you focus more on improving the quality of your life and ways you can do that.
Here are some different areas you can reflect on
Here are examples of the different areas you can review

Personal Growth

A year-end review makes planning so much easier for next year.
Starting your yearly business plan can be a little daunting, to say the least! However, looking back over the previous year can help you focus on what was and was not successful. We certainly do not want to be repeating what was not successful, we want to copy and improve what was. You will know exactly what to do differently.
You will be more grateful and happier.
We tend to forget the good things that happen to us. Celebrating and realising the good things and being grateful can make a huge difference to our well-being. And even if you look back on some of the bad things that may have happened it may help you see what you could have done to avoid those sorts of things happening again next year.
Helps to make you more realistic with your time.
When planning we are often estimating the time it takes us to do certain tasks. But when you go back and review you can see how long things took. This helps to make you more realistic with your time. Allocating the proper amount of time to do tasks will alleviate stress and overwhelm. There is nothing worse than continually racing against the clock. Things always take longer than we think they will.
Helps to reduce stress and overwhelm
Looking back at perhaps the more stressful time in the previous year will allow you to see why those things were stressful. It could be a task you found challenging or did not like. Identifying those things will help you to find easier ways to do them or maybe you need to delegate or outsource those things.

2 年Valuable advice Alex. A lot has happened for me in 2021 some good, some not and whilst it's sometimes painful to look back, I generally view it as a good opportunity for growth, and I'm looking forward to 2022!
