Living In The Past Will Kill You (Here's How You Survive)

Many companies are still living in the traditional marketing era and eventually it is going to put them out of business. In life and in business the strongest always survive. This means you have to always evolve yourself and your company to escape extinction.

The day that you stop evolving is the day you will go out of business!

After meeting with a lot of companies I have come to learn that generational businesses are usually the worst at evolving. As this may be a surprise to you it makes a lot of sense to me. Generational businesses get complacent and many don't adapt. A lot of them have a mindset of "we have built this company this way and we will continue to do it this way."

If this is your company then you better make a change or the business will stop with your generation!

The buyer of the digital era is moving to the internet. More and more customers are expecting companies to have a website, social media, and YouTube videos displaying their products and allowing them to learn more about their business. As time goes on customers will start to look at companies who don't do this as companies who simply don't care about their business and they will go somewhere else.

To add to the fact that all of your buyers are already using the internet, it is also a lot easier to track the ROI of a digital campaign than it is to track a traditional marketing campaign.

I have business owners ask me all the time, "What is the ROI of switching my marketing budget to digital?"

In the digital age with Google Analytics and every other tool we have at our exposure, it is easier than ever to track the ROI of a digital campaign.

What is not easy is to track the ROI for the $10,000 commercial you just put on television. Let me ask you this. How many of your customers bought your product because of that commercial? How many of the people who seen your commercial even need your product or service?

This is a trick question because there is no way you can give me a real answer. You don't know how many people seen your commercial. You don't know how many of those people who seen it even needed your services; so what's the ROI on your current marketing?

My point is this. Stop fighting the funk and get on the band wagon. Digital marketing and the internet are not going anywhere and they are only growing.

By not making the digital switch you're only holding your company back. Look at 2 of the power houses in modern day business, Amazon and Walmart. Amazon being an all online platform who could be the first Trillion dollar company, and WalMart the brick and mortar powerhouse who has dominated every retailer on the market.

As time goes on WalMart is now promoting more of their online sales because of how much business Amazon is taking from them. You see it in their commercials "Free shipping when you order from WalMart.com."

If staying in the past is the smart thing to do, than why is WalMart trying to strengthen their digital marketing? The answer is easy; they realize the internet is the future and they don't want to miss the train.

Now realistically, it will be hard to miss the train because we're in the beginning of the internet and digital era, but the real question is; How long are you going to hold back your company?

Are you the type of company who has to see bright flashing lights before you make a switch or are you the company who can see a trend and get in before it peaks?

Many companies wait too long to make important decisions and it can be fatal to their business and bottom line so don't make that mistake.

Make sure you're doing all you can to adapt and evolve with the times. Businesses are closing their doors daily because they didn't adapt quick enough and they're left in the dust. Do your business a favor and get with the times!
