Why live on the Edge ? Because the view is worth it.

Why live on the Edge ? Because the view is worth it.

Today marks the 25th remembrance day of what was probably one of the worst #racing weekends in #F1 history. It was the weekend of April 30th, 1994 on the circuit of #Imola that everything seemed to go wrong. On Friday #RubensBarichello crashed into a wall and was taken to hospital. On Saturday #RonaldRatzenberger tragically lost his life crashing also into a wall resulting in a fatal skull fracture. Sunday was probably the worst during the start two cars crashed into each-other sending a wheel into the public and injuring 9 people in the audience. During a pit stop one of the drivers drives over the leg of one of his pit crew members, but what everyone remembers most was the tragic loss of #AyrtonSenna. Killed by one of the struts of his front wheel suspension the broke off during a crash. Why would you ever want to get back into a racing car ?

Around that same period national sports television in the Netherlands interviewed a dutch racing legend #JanLammers. The interviewer asks him : Jan, we all know racing is very dangerous, why choose to live a life on the edge ?  Jan answers : " I know, but the view from the edge is just worth it". I had my first serious motorbike around that time and felt exactly what he meant. It still goes through my mind if I ride through a corner at high speed, but in that moment you rely on your equipment and your own skills, and the view ? Is indeed worth it. I guess it is human nature without risks we will never know what lies beyond and we are too curious to ignore that.

It does not mean we cannot limit the risks or at least the consequences of it. We found out over the years there is a lot that can be done and we still can do to improve the safety of drivers and riders. #Aramid plays a crucial role in that, by for instance not critically failing on impact, making sure that struts when breaking no longer fly around. From tires to brakes to the inside of a monocoque structure, Aramid is there.

We shouldn't stop taking risks, but we at #Teijin will keep working to keep these risks as manageable as possible. That is the mission we have given ourselves by saying #BeSure.

Well put Hendrik! Had a great ride in Luxemburg last weekend on the bike and much enjoyed pushing it in the many corners
