Why LinkedIn InMails/DMs Make Your Unemployment Job Search Take Too Long

This will probably be a big surprise for you ...

LinkedIn doesn't want you to know this, but using LinkedIn InMails and Direct Messages make most job seekers' job search longer.

There are a number of reasons why using LinkedIn InMails and DMs don't work well for job search, especially for unemployed candidates:

• Your InMail/DM doesn't hit your target hiring manager's email inbox: Unless they are also looking for a job, most will folderize social media emails or use a separate email address ... your LinkedIn InMails and DMs aren't hitting their primary email inbox, so they are seldom seen by your target.
• LinkedIn limits who you can communicate with: Even if the right person shows up in your search, you may be able to communicate with them or you may not, subject to LinkedIn's rules.
• LinkedIn limits the number of InMails/DM a member can send daily and monthly: This is true even for paid LinkedIn members, and both the daily and monthly limits are pretty limiting. It also means that recruiters have surprisingly low numbers of daily InMail/DM sending limits.
• InMails/DM can work for recruiters, but they only can send a limited number of emails per day and month: While recruiters are typically on LinkedIn regularly, it's their job to screen out candidates, and block you from communicating with hiring managers (the people who actually make hiring decisions). Why aren't you trying to get past and around recruiters who serve as roadblocks to your search, and instead get directly to hiring managers (who are rarely on LinkedIn - See first and last bullet)?
• You don't see most results of your LinkedIn search: Even LinkedIn paid member don't see 98% of their search results. Even worse, LinkedIn chooses who you see, not you.
• Hiring managers are not on LinkedIn very much: Unless they're looking for a job, too.

There are better solutions than LinkedIn to scale your network and communicate with employers about your job search.
