Why is LinkedIn important for Architects & Designers?

Everything changed in 2020 when most of us learned what working remotely meant due to COVID-19. A forced digital transformation happened all of the sudden, and some companies experienced more change in a few days than they had in decades.

Since then, our world has constantly been changing, and we have access to tools that allow us to work remotely and be more productive. This also means people are less often in their traditional physical location and, in many industries, there is less face time with customers.

LinkedIn is one of those tools that are available to use and allows us to reach out to our professional network and connect with the industries and community around us.

In case you thought only a few people were on LinkedIn. In December 2022, there were?2.480.000?Linkedin users in?New Zealand, which means that over 60% of the population over 18 years of age had a Linkedin profile. And "Yes", not everyone uses the platform daily, but local usage is rapidly increasing, and most decision-makers visit the platform several times a week.

How can Linkedin help architects and designers promote their businesses?

  1. Professional Networking: LinkedIn is a professional networking platform where architects and designers can connect with other professionals in the industry, including potential clients, collaborators, and mentors. It allows them to expand their network and build relationships with other professionals that can lead to new business opportunities.
  2. Showcase Portfolio: LinkedIn provides a platform to showcase portfolios and highlight past work or future projects to potential clients. By sharing images of completed projects, architects and designers can demonstrate their skills and expertise and attract new clients.
  3. Thought Leadership: LinkedIn provides a platform to share ideas and insights about the industry. By posting articles or engaging in discussions, architects and designers can establish themselves as thought leaders in the field and gain credibility with other professionals and potential clients.
  4. Job Opportunities: LinkedIn is one of the most established job search platforms for professionals and is highly effective for technical jobs. Currently, in New Zealand, it is tough to find talent, and many companies struggle to recruit new staff. Architectural and Interior Design companies can use LinkedIn to search for job opportunities or to promote job openings of their own that their employees or their network can easily share online.
  5. Industry Updates: LinkedIn is an excellent source for staying up-to-date with the latest trends and news in the industry. By following industry thought leaders and joining groups, architects and designers can stay informed about new technologies, regulations, and best practices.

Overall, LinkedIn provides a valuable platform for architects and designers to promote their businesses, establish themselves as thought leaders, expand their network, and stay informed about the industry. By leveraging the platform effectively, they can gain a competitive edge and attract new business opportunities.
