Why is LinkedIn forcing us to downgrade?

Why is LinkedIn forcing us to downgrade?

I'm not talking about how we've all lost the free account capabilities of years past to see 4 degrees of people results, to see up to 1,000 results per query, or dozens of other useful functions that LinkedIn moved to only their most-expensive paid account tiers.  No, I'm talking about functionality that the most expensive tier ("LinkedIn Recruiter") users already pay for, and is now being removed by forcing those users to migrate to their new interface.

Two of my favorites for years that are going away:

1) Ability to search a list of companies at once where some companies have commas in the name of the firm:  Let's say you had a list of companies containing (in part) "Morningflow Capital" OR "Balter, Hanshaw, Mester & Stanley".  No problem in the old interface (this segment would be treated as 2 of the companies in your list), but in the new product, it breaks your field input into three parts: (a) string #1 is "Morningflow Capital" OR "Balter (final quotation mark auto-removed, which leads to unpredictable results), (b) string #2 is Hanshaw, and (c) string #3 is Mester & Stanley" (first quotation mark auto-removed), which is messy and leads to inaccurate results.

2) If you want to make something a Boolean AND (i.e., profiles must contain all selected values in a field in order to appear in results), or a mix of AND with OR, that will only work in the Job titles and Company field filters. Skills and other fields do not have this anymore - everything is treated as a Boolean OR.

For those of you paid users out there, let us know in the comments which other functions you have to give up or compromise on in order to keep using the product?

I wonder what the My Space team would say to this approach?

I have lately been notified that I am nearing my limit of sending connection invitations to people who don't know me. Please define networking. It is to expand your world or keep it static? Anyone can review my profile and decide if they want to connect. A nanny state is not required in what one would think is a free will decision.

We pay a premium for the Recruiter product. Now Linked In has imposed a punitive action whereby if you receive less that a 13% response rate from your list, regardless of whether the response is "accepted" or "declined," you are barred from using the bulk mail feature for up to a month. We would not have bought a product that would punish us for the behaviors of the market. Our emails leave us well written and well intended. The response rate is not within our control. Can you imagine our Linked In sales rep trying to sell us the product and telling us it might not always work based on end-consumer behavior? Who is the paying customer here? Thanks for the info on the Boolean being compromised, too, and for the heads up on the "new platform." I can't see us doing this spend again at renewal.

I'm sure Microsoft has a plan to upgrade the customer experience LOL

LN has not been helpful to small business owners or job seekers. $200 or so a year was reasonable but the jump significantly more has made me say no thank you. LN is slowly becoming like Dice.com where you never want to actually give out your real email and phone. I also needed to stop accepting Inmails since the quality of "people" has at least in my view changed my mind. Over the last two years ive become less active and stopped paying the Premium subscriptions. Can we say Monster or Dice value...
