Why Linkedin is becoming cool again

Why Linkedin is becoming cool again

As an avid Twitter user, I have always said it's my favourite platform and excellent for building relationships. You just can't beat the opportunities and ease of connecting with people you admire and want to develop relationships with.

Recently I've noticed though that Linkedin is starting to make little changes to keep people like me over here!

The first thing that really grabbed my attention was when they introduced video. Did you know that if you go to your Linkedin app on your phone, click 'write post' and then click the video icon...you will get option to record video. Click 'record video' and press the record button.....and it records your video. When you decide its good enough, just click ok and it will upload to Linkedin!

Another change coming is that Linkedin is introducing Snapchat-style geofilters for events and conferences

This means that when you attend an event in the future, you can take a video on the app and add illustrations to videos you create at the event. The graphics are made to 'look like conference badges, with the poster's profile photo in the right corner. The filters will also indicate if the person sharing the video is a speaker at the event.'

What does this mean? This means that your event which is probably trending on Twitter right now with your hashtag can get extra attention from potential sponsors etc for next year when you start posting stuff up on Linkedin. You can get creative and make yours stand out even more than just a photo of the event. It also shows your followers your authentic fun self and show who and where you are hanging out.

I've also noticed that because Twitter and Linkedin are now the best B to B platforms I find that a lot of my articles I write here are being shared to Twitter so it's helping my following in both platforms. Twitter is all about showing you are the expert in what you do, so this is a great way to get people over to see other stuff you are up to. People buy from People so no matter how serious or professional you are here, you can always be a bit more laid back on Twitter (You'd be surprised the amount of decision makers there are 'lurking and watching' on Twitter).

Which platform do you use? And do you agree? Are you spending more time here on Linkedin than before?

I agree LinkedIn is evolving by enabling users to demonstrate their know-how in different ways. Better to publish content than just say "I'm a content marketer"! That said, LinkedIn needs to improve to reflect the gig economy. Potential employers still see a 2D CV and don't have time to scroll for more info. Allowing users to prioritize Publications, Projects and Pinned Posts on their profiles would go a long way. (Wasn't going for alliteration there but that's how it worked out!)

Always found LinkedIn to be an amazing resource of people, ideas and comment - to me comments are the most important aspect as they tend to be honest and open and give a broader picture than on other media
