Why Limiting Beliefs (Are Limiting You)

Something Silly

In medieval Great Britain, people thought that there were tiny demons hiding in brussels sprouts. If a person ate one of them, he or she would get food poisoning

Something Serious

Are Limiting Beliefs a Choice?

YES!

The question is, why would a person choose to set limits??

The answer is as simple as it is complicated.?

  • Goal?setting involves establishing specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-targeted (S.M.A.R.T ) goals.?
  • Limit setting?is driven by emotional discomfort, most often fear. The goal feels unattainable. Not always a conscious choice, but a choice, nonetheless.?

As your behavior drives the ability to achieve one’s goals, consider how failure, excuses, and procrastination can impact your future.

It’s your reaction to failure that determines your ability to succeed.

Thomas Edison was told by his teacher, ‘he was too stupid to succeed’. He wasn’t discouraged. He had ideas and wasn’t afraid of making mistakes. When asked how many times he tried to create the light bulb, he famously said, “I have not failed. I just found 10,000 ways that did not work. Failure is an opportunity to learn what’s needed not to fail.?

We consciously make excuses not to set goals to achieve success.

No one wants to be out of their comfort zone. Excuses and procrastination are behaviors that allow us not to feel uncomfortable. Procrastinating and excuses are mind tricks that help you to feel comfortable.

Excuses stop you from ever starting. Procrastination is just another form of excuse.?

The cure for procrastination is not to do it. Instead, start whatever you intend to procrastinate NOW!?

Keep this in Mind: Your future is being created in this present moment.

Let’s discuss.?

Great post Joshua - I think its important for people to understand who the inner critic is and why everyone has one. Getting a better understanding of the 'why' allows people to understand the inner critic is actually there to protect you and doesn't often come true. If we had a teammate/friend who spoke to you like the inner critic would we be friends? would we like that person? my guess is no. So why do we accept and take every word our inner critic says as gospel and give it so much attention? What happens if we accept what the inner critic is telling you may happen, but we will only find out after the event. Would that allow us to accept it, not give it anymore airtime that it requires?

A very powerful reminder message that if we really want something, we have to DO something to get it, Joshua Miller! ???? Excellent recommendations on ways to help ourselves get to the DOing! (And I don't think brussels sprouts have tiny demons in them...I just think they don't taste good. ????) Thank you for sharing this and for the very kind mention!????? Your insights are appreciated.
