Why?

Why big name stars and companies decide to speak out and take sides in hotly contested issues is beyond me. It is one thing to grab all the free media attention you can to raise awareness of your name or brand, but when it comes with alienating yourself from millions of potential supporters you really ought to rethink your decision.

Let's see, a 91 billion dollar company like Nike, who charges sky high prices for their goods that are made in China, who throws millions of dollars into advertising, promotions, and insane player payouts, decides it is worth taking the chance that this move will be perceived as a brilliant ad campaign move?! At a time the cost of even being able to watch the games on TV much less ever thinking about actually attending a game is getting to be out of reach for even middle class America just might not be a good move!

The very people that are supposedly being oppressed are the same hard working people struggling just to make ends meet but have to pay exorbitant prices for goods so that companies and the players can make ridiculously high salaries. If you really think that Nike cares for the little guy you need to do some serious rethinking. It is a pure gamble that enough will perceive them as "doing the right thing" so that their sales will increase even more. You won't see prices slashed as a way to help the consumer just like the big performers don't provide discount ticket, audio or video merchandise. America is the land of opportunity and that is more true today for everyone than ever before. But our society has also become self focused and no longer hold close to our hearts the values that our creator knows is best for us. Greed and lust are now the driving forces behind everything these days. It is God that teaches us that we are all His children and we are to love one another. We are created in His image to be temples constructed to honor and glorify Him. That is what truly is "doing the right thing"! It is God's word that brings light into our darkened world. It comes with the most pure love that we can't even imagine. The promise that He will never leave our side and that for those who believe in Him with their whole heart comes the promise of eternal life with Him in heaven. The gift of the Holy Spirit within a believers heart is what brings true joy and divine guidance to their lives. It is when each soul is drawn to His light that they can then have the desire to do and be more for the Lord. The many programs and education that is provided to all in our great country now has the chance to take hold. Without God's Spirit of love & hope coming from within our hearts all the programs and support does little to change anything. It is only when we partner with God in Jesus Christ will any meaningful change take place. Every believer needs to head out into their community and share the love of Jesus with everyone around them, but do this through simple loving acts of kindness.
