ON GROWTH - Writing Better Subject Lines
This is an excerpt from The LegalTech Growth Course on Patreon. Learn more about how the Legal Tech Growth Course can help your startup get traction and scale quickly, here.
The subject line of your email is so important. If it sucks, anything else won't get read (because the email won't be opened....jussssaying).
There are three reasons people decide to open an email:
1. Self-interest: Offer them something that's going to help them.
Example from Spotify: "Playlists made just for you"—save them time and effort.
2. Emotional interest: Spark positive emotion.
Example from Typeform: "You're invited to the premiere"—make them feel special.
3. Relational interest: Get them to like you, trust you, and want to hear what you have to say.
Example from Allbirds: "Leave a lighter footprint"—they like the brand and mission.
Consider using one of these elements for each of your subject lines. Better yet, A/B Test them against one another. You'll likely increase your email marketing performance.

LEGAL TECH READS
Thanks again to Charlie Uniman and the Legal Tech Startup Focus for sourcing some more good stuff for us!
1 - No-Code Legal Automation Startup Josef Raises $2.5M
Tweetable: “This funding will help us to level up and take Josef global, building a world-class team throughout Europe and North America. With the support of the LegalTech Fund, we have the partners to make that happen.”_
2 - What is the Right Valuation of Any Legal Tech Startup?
_Tweetable: "There’s one decisive variable we only explored in the roadmap: frequency. When a startup latches on to a high-frequency event, the more likely its valuation will increase."
LTG Commentary: There are two ways to make real money in startups: go public or get acquired. Both deal with valuation. But valuation is more than just the market value of the company - it's also a signal to the market because like to buy what other people are also buying and like everyone knows....wealth begets wealth. So figuring out what's getting funded and working backward will lower your funding tractional costs (read: less convincing).
FAVORITE NEW GROWTH TOOL
Finally, let's get to tools. This week's post was all about subject lines, so this week's Growth tool of the week is...
Nolt.io
Nolt is a customer feedback tool that centralizes all your customer feedback so that sales, product, marketing and customer success can see exactly what your customers want to hear from you next...and yes, it can help you write better subject lines.
