Why, What and How of #KosaksiPasapugazhExperiments?

Still remember the days as I pack my bags to Thanjavur,Tamil Nadu to SASTRA University to get the prestigious alumni status back in 2016 after slogging 4 years at IITJEE coaching. Unlike other private college admissions every rank before me took a seat without moving away irrespective of their interests. I have been told that around 300 students flock from Chennai to grab the alumni status and it is cherished over a life time.

I remember people moving around Triplicane ,Chennai moving around with T-shirts of SASTRA since my class 9,would bow down to them with fear and see them with glowing eyes with all desire. I have been told by several people that don't think of changing the world .Let's take this topic at the end for now. Fast forward a couple of months, a few hundred talents of India are under the same roof who came from many states in SPS Hostel. People mostly were speaking how they missed NITs and IITs and people solaced each other for a few days.

I remember seeing people from different areas of Chennai in different rooms who knew each other for several years across tuitions ,IIT Coaching, British Council classes and every other class across. There were a wide spectrum of people with various degrees of seriousness irrespective of how they excelled in academics in School.

Few people spoke how easily their alumni status can gain all things in life and few debated we shall continue with same hard work to achieve our desires. Fast forward a month my roommate took me to his cousin sister who just got placed in LatentView Analytics ,never knew what AI was at that moment. What stuck me that it's a proud career was that the lady told to us she was mocked by roommates that she is going to buy a beautiful red handbag and enjoy her life in Chennai as her life is settled. So she had to be very humble to roommates for the rest of the year. This got my eyes to pursue such a career in life but have been told across the whole first year how fast in exams you have to be to crack the job.

There were several clubs which were there which was a consumption-first clubs where people consumed concepts or produced standard solution every year. Across all years I have met the brightest minds on campus, who have pursued several personal research activities which are untracked of and not encouraged of ,because they would anyway get a top job without these .I have met two sides of people. One side claiming you will anyway land multiple job offer without much efforts. The other side seniors like Vivek Pothina , Pranav Iyengar Deevi , Vasudharini Moranam Ravi handholded me throughout right from telling what AI is to till now across whenever needed. Thanks for it!!! Whatever resources I got at the college, something was still missing, engineering looked very simple to me. I always wished I can easily push more. Never I have solved problems harded than IITJEE post that, friends started solacing that these problems are just made up and never exists.

Final year did come and irrespective of all efforts I had put ,I anyway just got placed in multiple analytics companies and chose BRIDGEi2i Analytics Solutions just because of the "Brand" and did feel the same as the senior girl. But few months down the line I did realize a lot of problems in real world are difficult than IITJEE, few were attempted to be solved at industry and other problems although the talent was there, it was a risky investment to invest in because people knew everyone had just fun in college irrespective of the premium institution they are from.

Across my careers I have seen tougher mathematical problem which needed no novel solution, but clever half baked techniques, if present can add huge financial value .This was the story which was never known to what I call "average living society" ,but pretty elite families and they always excelled in life. This story was found resounding to many VCs, founders and even unicorn founders!!!

Wait!!!Why should I think this much when I am settled?

No, this time I decided to start something to solve this. I have had a few conversation across with brightest minds of my college and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa . A few common observations

1.People created an environment that anyway we won't get elite jobs and IITians just grab them.

2.People created an environment that math is not used in industry at all without even being aware of it.

I have always expected a quick answer when I approach IITians assuming they would quickly solve it. But ended in many cases seeing them in the same state of perplexity.

This helped me understand that several gaps of top 1% were not being satisfied by colleges because a policy can never cover and benefit the entire college. I would not say college hasn't put in efforts, but I remember my senior telling me that college professors did discuss about it, but making such a curriculum would end increasing unit economics as they need to pull talent from industry which may end increase college fees.

There were other problems like the quantam of effort needed to publish papers with professors is significantly more and people don't take part in it. I still remember using 64 GB NVIDIA GPUs for weeks since many don't dare to do such experiments. College has always encouraged me to pursue such things but people did who had their dopamine there.

To make people start thinking about research, I understood that chunking research efforts into small modules and making them push on Github can give them quick dopamine and eventually many go to labs and pursue research.

More importantly I understood that people need a brand to wrap themselves to recognize that, that's where the #KosaksiPasapugazhExperiments name came. It is a perfect name which is inspired from three idiots where the actor teaches a bunch of kids all real world experiments.

It is a protocol like UPI which wraps around every community. It has it's own Repo-market fit to wrap around existing communities and make them agile Open source contributors and join them with other communities and build a strong bonding.

So in conclusion it is a platform to recognize top brains and set them apart to be a better 1%.

What of #KosaksiPasapugazhExperiments?

The primary goal of #KosaksiPasapugazhExperiments is to tackle the lack of theoretical research in mathematical concepts, which often hinders industry leaders from investing in high-risk AI experiments. By conducting a wide range of experiments, from highly successful to high-risk, the initiative aims to demonstrate to the industry which paths are worth exploring and how such experiments can fit into their portfolios.

One of the key aspects of this initiative is its focus on student involvement. As the famous movie "3 Idiots" portrays, students are the true assets – the AGIs (Artificial General Intelligences) who are priceless. #KosaksiPasapugazhExperiments aims to harness the potential of these students by providing them with a platform to solve real-world AI problems and build unique portfolios. This not only benefits the students but also the industry as a whole, as it fosters a new generation of skilled and experienced AI professionals.

The initiative also offers a unique opportunity for alumni who are currently working as data scientists in the industry. These alumni often face "spike problems" – complex, high-risk challenges that require innovative solutions. By participating in #KosaksiPasapugazhExperiments as mentors, alumni can not only help guide students through these challenges but also gain valuable experience in tackling such problems themselves. This collaborative approach ensures that both students and alumni are better equipped to handle the demands of the industry.

The core members of Google Developer Student Clubs, SASTRA, have already started trials for #KosaksiPasapugazhExperiments, and the results are promising. The students have shown a burning curiosity and a great interest in solving real-world AI problems. This enthusiasm, combined with the mentorship of experienced alumni, creates the perfect environment for conducting high-risk experiments that have the potential to revolutionize the industry.

As an alumnus and industry professional, I invite you to join us in this groundbreaking initiative. By sharing your expertise and experiences with high-risk AI experiments, you can help shape the future of the industry and be a part of a movement that is truly reshaping SASTRA University. Remember, when students are involved, we are not burning cash, and their logical thinking and problem-solving skills are on par with established industry data scientists.

In the spirit of the movie "3 Idiots" and its message that ideas are what truly matter, let us come together and embark on this journey of #KosaksiPasapugazhExperiments. By collaborating with students and conducting large-scale experiments on unsolved industry problems, we can push the boundaries of AI and create a brighter future for all.

Join us in this tribute to the movie "Naban" and actor Vijay, and let's prove that when it comes to AI, it's the idea that matters, and the power of collaboration between academia and industry is unstoppable.
