Teachers! Do you suffer from CAD!? Compulsive Accumulative Disorder!? I do.
I entered the Store room to search for a something and while looking through a box fell on my feet almost deliberately like someone had pushed it out. When I looked up at the shelf I saw the fabric rolls, charts, cake base, boxes and it swept me into nostalgia. CAD nostalgia!
I remember since the Rise of the 3R’s my CAD behaviour took a Revolutionary turn. Not that it wasn’t in the past but yes it was rather revolutionary. I had found a name to it and a reason to collect the 3R things.
Walking through the streets, plush malls or visiting homes of friends and family the uncanniest of things like bottle caps, strings, beads, boxes, size, did not matter…I mean from the size of a matchbox to a refrigerator, everything caught my attention. Once while visiting a friend’s new home I was asking her odd questions like where is the box that you used to bring this beautiful piece here? After a weird glance she said to me,” here we are showing our beautiful home and what catches your eye is” and she went on but I was helpless…anyway blame it on the teacher DNA I guess.
SO yes, coming back to my CAD. when I began my career as a kindergarten teacher I had a small box in a corner of a room to myself where I began accumulating things. Everything which I would otherwise throw away started being examined and then accumulated in the tiny box and made way to my classroom walls, bulletin boards, desks or stage shows. As we moved into bigger homes the ACD area also grew disproportionate. Now I had a room to myself, The Storeroom! It was almost an Attic.. “Why keep but can’t throw” room.
By now all the teachers at heart, must’ve nodded in unison, you may have treaded great strides to being a Dean or CEO’s but you are always a teacher at heart and that gene nevva evva dies.
Are you suffering from CAD!? science will nevva be able to find a concoction for this.
It is a universal teacher condition with no sign of a scientific medicinal breakthrough in sight just yet!
