If you are interested in how couple relationships work and would you like to explore the central theoretical concepts of psychodynamic couple therapy, our 12-week online evening webinar series could be for you.

?“An Introduction to Therapy with Couples” is designed for complete beginners and therapists who would like to know more about working with couples. Participants will explore what it is like to work with couples in therapy and are given the opportunity to read theory by key figures in the field and to think about its application in the work with couples. Film clips and case material are included to deliver deeper insight into this fascinating field of psychotherapy.

?Topics covered include what brings couples together, shared unconscious relationships and couple fit, holding the ‘couple in mind’ in therapy, unconscious phantasy and beliefs, projective processes in couples, sex and sexualities, aggression and violence in couples, parenting, ageing and relationships, depression and psychological issues, attachment styles within couples, and intergenerational aspects in relationships.

Seminar leaders: Ellen Burridge & Shannon Ashton

Our seminar leaders are experienced couple therapists who trained at Tavistock Relationships using the TR model of understanding and working with couples.

?Ellen Burridge says: ““The popular course attracts a diverse mix of participants, from complete beginners through to experienced therapists. Everyone gets something the course, whether it is understanding more about their own couple relationship, gaining an insight into the dynamics of? couple therapy or further still, fostering a confidence as well as an interest in pursuing a couples clinical training at some point in the future.”

?Shannon Ashton says: “During the weekly group seminars we discuss a diverse range of topics from why we choose the partners we do to how our past relational experiences can inform our present difficulties. The quality of our closest relationships profoundly affects how we feel about ourselves so if you are curious to know more about how relationships really work then join us to explore how and why we connect in the ways we do.”

?“An Introduction to Therapy with Couples” runs three times a year and the next one begins in January 2025. No previous experience of therapy or training is necessary. The course delivers CPD credits and can be a launchpad for our clinical trainings.
