Why Are Jobs Being Reposted

Why Are Jobs Being Reposted

We apply, we get declined, we see the job is reposted again

There seems to be a trend of 'influencers' or 'certified resume coaches' (certified from where?) who are delivering scare-tactic messages to applicants along the lines of 'even if you meet 70% of the requirements, apply to if you meet 100% of the requirements don't apply. Shut Up.

There could be a number of issues, from the requirements changing, to budget to expanding the pool of candidates, to indecisive hiring managers - ya, I said it

There are a number of issues pertaining to this repetitive issue job seekers are facing - trust me, it's not you. I want all job seekers to take a step back from all this noise on LinkedIN about what and how to apply and REALLY listen to those who are in the industry. Many of the topics these attention seekers write about HAVE NO DATA to back up their claims, they are writing based on their PERSONAL BIAS of the process, THEY ARE NOT IN THE INDUSTRY - PERIOD. Stop giving them your time and most importantly, your sense of self-worth.

This market is cruel, the leaders are making decisions that aren't friendly for all, they are friendly for some - don't worry, they'll get the message that this isn't the way to treat their staff - yes, we have bills to pay, need sustenance and security, but, the fact that job seekers are are forever being disqualified for job they are qualified for - is not a job seeker issue. There is no advice, no resume rewrite, no ATS Bot (Recruiters are the damn bot), preventing you from getting that call. It is internal on top of the pathetic salaries that are being offered - 'acting one's wage' is trending and nobody is talking about this.

Jobs are being reposted because they aren't willing to PAY for your expertise, they aren't willing to be upfront about salary, they bait and switch at the time of offer and so many other shady methods orgs are practicing - basically, the most desperate will accept and will put up with our sh!t mentality and toxic culture. We are all desperate, don't lower your worth because orgs want control. Credit scores, debt collections, eating Vienna Sausages out of the can - all this can be remedied - with the org that values you. I am in the same boat, my car was repossessed, I'm at least $70k in debt, and I barely eat - but my dogs don't need to know that I am struggling.

Orgs must change this 'we exist for profit' operation- because stop lying, it's the same orgs who are .01% away from bankruptcy, and start paying people livable wages, and flexible work structures, and give us the respect we are worth - maybe you won't have to keep reposting your jobs every two weeks, 2 months, or the most I've seen 5 times so far... Your toxic mentality is going to hit those profit margins.

The, 'we want in-person collaboration' is another lie; where's the data on that, we know the expenses for real estate isn't cheap, but then again, orgs had a few years to do without real estate - I mean if these same orgs are all about doing the right thing for the environment and climate change but expect us to sit in traffic, in a building with high-powered HVAC systems and don't even get me started on the electricity bills on top of all those forkable lunches that are you guessed it, delivered, then where does the hypocrisy end? Orgs, this market is on you and the stalemate we are at requires that leadership listen to what we, the workforce that contribute to stock value and your unnecessary 8+figure comp packages have to say.

Call me, let's talk, and bring your investor daddies too.

Investor daddies ??

Something I've heard people start complaining about more is going through long job interview processes, being assigned a takehome project, asked to present the project and do a Q&A, only for them to get rejected for someone with "more experience" AND the role gets reposted. It appears to me these job postings are a way for companies to bring in candidates and get free consulting services knowing there's no way for the candidate to prove it.

It was mentioned to me the other day by someone on the inside that some of these companies took advantage of federal relief loans during COVID. One of the requirements and thus a strategy to delay repayment of the loan is they have to show that they are unable to fulfill their workforce requirements to keep their businesses fully operational and profitable. To satisfy the requirement, they post roles that they have no intention of fulfilling. They receive numerous applications, only to repost the role again weeks later, stating they could not find suitable candidates. I was unable to verify that this is true, but the person I spoke to has been a pretty reliable source in the past. My time is valuable. I spend at least an hour or two on each application, researching the company, benefits & culture - tailoring my resume to ATS systems and writing cover letters. Spending all that time, only to face numerous rejections is discouraging. As a result of this and other factors, I now avoid applying for any role that has hundreds of applicants and is shown to have been reposted (or new roles posted by companies that have had a history of numerous job repostings). I now only work with reliable recruiters.
